After reading about the Micra, I could see that new hatches are coming out with some or other "segment first" features. The Micra is this case has the Passive Entry/Ignition system as the "segment first" feature. The hatch segment is getting crowded and these "segment first" features do help to differentiate one car from another. Many of these "segment first" features that we see in hatches today were earlier seen only in expensive saloons upward of 10 lacs.

The below is the table that summarizes what is the "segment first" feature, which car was the first to introduce it, other cars that also have this feature.

"Segment First" features in Hatchbacks-clipboard02.jpg

As visible, Swift and i20 have been instrumental in bringing a lot of "segment first" features in the hatchback segment.

Requesting members to contribute to this thread by providing more inputs. Also, please correct if any of the entries in the table are incorrect.

Some corrections.

First hatchback car to offer ABS and Airbags was Fiat Palio.
Second was Maruti WagonR VXi (Surprised haan?)

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...s-airbags.html

And one addition
First hatchback to offer EPS - WagonR / Alto
First hatchback to offer digital odometer and tripmeter -Maruti WagonR again !

And hate to say this again - electric ORVMs were also part of 2005 WagonRs. Not sure if any hatchback before had them.

1.) ABS , EBD , Airbags were first offered by Fiat Palio In India in Hatchback Nearly half a decade before Maruti .
2.) Rear Parking Sensors were first given by Daewoo Matiz in India(Though this model was available in UP only at demise of Daewoo in India).
3.) 32 Bit ECU was given first by Fiat Palio long before Maruti started giving 16Bit ECU.
4.) Cool Glove box was given first by Chevorlet SRV and then by Fabia.

AFAIK there are two mistakes in the list.

1. Sunroof was introduced in the Fabia.
2. Bluetooth telephony was introduced in the Indica vista anniversary edition after which it made its way into the punto.

The i10 offered a sunroof before the i20.

There was a Uno Diesel variant called "Uno S" which offered these 2 features in its diesel model. I think it was launched before the santro. or did it launch after the Indica? Correct me on this please!

AFAIK, the EPS was first introduced in the ZEN MPFi. I remember reading an article on that. Or did the Wagon R debut before the Zen MPFi?

I guess you mean electronically adjustable while the OP is talking about electronically foldable ones, like on the i20.

The Fusion+ came with electric ORVMs around the same time. Not sure which was first. Fabia definitely is not the first hatch to offer this feature in India.

Yep. I am talking about electrically foldable ones. And i20 is the first hatch to have that. You need not externally fold your ORVMs after you park the car. They are motorized. Hope you get it now.

EDIT: @DCEite, Sorry man, i mis-read your post. Got confused between electrically adjustable (Fabia as mentioned) and electrically foldable (i20). Apologies again.

absolutely, adored the golf green and whispering violet colours at the factory when I saw them in 2002.

EPS was first introduced in Zen VXi in 2000. WagonR did not have PS at the time of launch. i came after the zen in that zipdrive/zap/spice wars:D

wagon R in 2006 was the first in class to give electrically adjustable OSRVM and the VXI with dual airbags and ABS was available in the old model since BS-3 in 2005.

I 20 gave first in class electrically foldable OSRVMS.

Punto was the first hatchback with bluetooth connectivity.

Palio with ABS and Airbags , which model was this??? I presume this was a pre 2005 model. The current model which is getting phased out did not have any of these.

Lets talk about the real stuff guys... first to offer a 1.6 liter 100 bhp engine? Yes I know you know it and I miss that particular car badly.
