This is fantastic news! Way to go TATA! On the other I hand, I fail to understand that if TATA is willing to take this route for its premier Land Rover range of vehicles, why the hell can't Nissan for it's X-Trail and Mitsubishi for its Lancer and EVO-X.

Tata Moors will soon start assembling all the models of the the 2011 Land Rover Freelander 2 in India and along with that also aims to put 2000 Freelanders on Indian roads. What this suggests is a very yummy price tag for the Freelander as the CKD kits are expected to give Tata plenty of leeway by means cost savings to price the Freelander right in the INR 25 Lakh price bracket. Tata will assemble the FreeLander 2 at it’s Chikli unit, which once upon a time housed the Tata-Mercedes Benz production facility.

From what a source at JLR told me, the CKD Freelanders would be on sale from June and would come to 35 lakhs on road, this is in Mumbai.. Once Tata starts completely manufacturing the Freelander in India, prices will go into the 25 lakh bracket

They would be completely manufacturing the freelander? With some respectable localization content?

I thought they will just move from CBU to CKD operations.

That would set the cat amongst the pigeons! Do we know when Tata propose to start production?
