Tata Motors the new No 2

Tata Motors races past Hyundai to be No. 2 - India Business - Business - The Times of India

Looks like Shahruck has lost his position in this field as well. This is what I interpret from it

Is it due to Nano effect - No

Have Tatas come up with VFM products which we love - Yes ( Vista, Manza )

Have they improved the product quality - Yes( Vista is a huge leap from prev gen Indicas)

Have they improved A.S.S - I dont know

Has hyundai lost quality - I dont think so

Have Hyundai come up with VFM products which we love - No

I guess tata will continue to gain market share once Nano monsters start to roll out from its mother plant.

From the report -

However, this is not the first time that Tata Motors has done this.
So nothing much to be read into this other than the already known success of Manza and increasing numbers of Nano.

With the Nano production in full swing, expect the 27,000 odd numbers to cross the 30,000 mark quite easily. With Aria coming in soon, the numbers will only increase. Good to see TATA moving up the numbers, but they should first give a niggle free car, then the sales will increase even more.

The niggles might not cause breakdowns, but they are the very irritating, which will influence the decision making in the buying process.

Its a great achievement by team tata ! Their products certainly needs more fine tuning
1.In terms of Design - Manza/India -
2.In terms of Engg/safety - Nano

Somehow they still are not a respected brand. Waiting for better times in the coming years.

All their new designs seems to lack the design fluidity they had seemed to have in their earlier designs like Org.Tata Safari/old indica/tata sierra. Present designs are striking but somehow not very appealing. I had seen Aria in Flesh in the Auto Expo . Everything looks well fit from outside but overall design fluidity is pretty average.

Tata has gained a lot from the JLR takeover. Now we will get to see a lot of JLR technology in the upcoming TATA vehicles. Now that will surely change the way an indian customer thinks about the TATA quality.

Sure,

TATA's have come a long way, Partnership with Fiats have helped them get the Best Diesel engines as on date, and the JLR takeover.

Congratulations TATA,

With the kind of VFM products they are offering presently, they sure will get close to being No.1 soon.

Hyundai Plant was not functional this month for more than a week due to labour unrest. That would have led to a big drop in new cars being sent out of the factory.

have to wait for next months figures to get a correct picture.

Good Job TATA! Now go for #1.

Having said that I will sit back, get some popcorn, and wait for the TATA-bashers to arrive and whine about A.S.S, Taxi image, and what not

Kudos to TATA Motors for the achievement. How far are they from becoming No 1 in terms of sales figures now? I guess Maruti is still quite far ahead.

Good to see TATA moving up the ladder
Things which can help them to stick to No:2 are.

1) All new SAFARI, preferably with Fiat's 1.9JDT/MJD.
2) A new small car (800/1000cc, 3-pot will do), may be based on Nano Europa but with engine at the front.
3) A 5 seater mini SUV (5-7lakh range, with Fiat's 1.3MJD)
4) Increase service center presence.
5) No more 'indica/vista' family look on upcoming vehicles.

And finally the most important one:
6) A 1.2 liter Petrol engine which can be compared to 1.2K Series.

According to a report in ET, Tata is planning produce 30K Nanos from March 2011. If this is true then Tata will be selling around 50-55K vehicles every month.

Dont you guys think TATA would have sold more Nanos, had they been able to produce the 30k numbers at the time of launch.
I am not sure, But I feel the craze for a Nano s dying. Just a thought

The craze for Nanos has'nt even started yet. Once Tata's production meets demand the petrol variant will give consistent numbers especially since there is no competition for the near future.

Then comes the trump card, the Diesel variant. The potential of a 2-2.5 lac diesel car in India doesnt have to be explained. The small Diesel developed with Bosch coupled with the Nano's low weight is going to give crazy mileage. Now with the fuel hike bombshell, the cars affordability and low running costs will be a bonus.

And we still havent spoken of the the CVT, Europa variants......

They wont need any of this to stick to No.2 position, just the Nano numbers will do. But these can help them to go seriously for the No.1 slot, at least in numbers.
