BLB 2032 was bright red, Deluxe, 1987. My first car, bought used in 1994 with my own hard earned money. And the thing I've done in that car -
Raced, ripped, romanced, got caught.. the works ! That was a truly lucky car for me, never let me down. Had a few near-miss incidents with 2032.
Finally had to let her go in 1997. I miss you dearly, babe !

Then came MH-04-AC-2185. White, 1997, my first 'showroom' car - mine, courtsey Citibank finance - oh those were the days of liberation ! Got married and drove my wife around in 2185. Zipped like mad on the umpteen outstation trips we took her to - packed to the gills with luggage ! The 800 was truly freedom on wheels.

Thank you for the memories .
Rvi bhai, we had altogather 4 Maruti 800 till date ..First one was a second hand old shape maruti 800 DX in the year 1987 with that chilling AC having 507 compressor, and goodies like safety belts, leather seat covers, etc. It was a clean beauty with gleaming red colour we used it for 3 years and sold it to a guy in Bandra. It was MAP 9692.
Then came 800 DX in 1990 MH=01=A=612 again second hand but was used only for 948kms by earler owner, he was a diamond merchant and was migrating to USA.This car had pioneer deck, central locking, leather seat covers, fog lamps, attatchment for intermittant wiper speed(those days it was not standard even in DX models) rear extra red stop lamps.
We used this car for about 8 years and then sold it as it had started giving overheating problems, which even MASS guys said it as common and not unusual, the guy who brought it was keen in accesaries rather then car.
Next came Maruti 800 DX in year 2000 it was white in colour and we used this car for almost 6 years and sold it in 2006.nothing grat or more to write about this car,
Next and existing car MH=O1=N=937 is a 800 5 speed 2002 model I got it second hand in 2008.with onlt 10464 kms on its odometer Ifind this car more quicker then 800cc normal car,Ihave pioneer music system, amp ,woofer, twitters, front fog lamps, alloy wheels, tachometer, wooden steering wheel, blue LED Lamps in side cabin illumiinating the flooring, etcetc.Once agai 800 is a vehicle.

Prior to the 800 I had a premier padmini. Called fiat too in those days. The difference when I drove the 800 for the first time is amazing. The seating comfort, the NVH levels, air conditioning and the smooth pick up..everything is amazing compared to my previous car.

The feeling is 'this is a how a car should be'.

Re: Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-1991)

Since the 800 had (has till April) a production run till the 2012 that is a cool 28 years and still creates a feeling of nostalgia among past owner and current owners, title of the thread should be edited to -Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-2012)

This could unite one and all who have an ode to share about the 800 and how it drove into their lives and changed it completely providing the cheapest and the most reliable set of wheels for independent private transport for nearly 3 decades.

Re: Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-1991)

My 1987 Maruti 800 is still fine and running. The battery has been changed which has made the car more energetic. Its so rudimentary with only the most basic features.
-The best thing is that the car needs parking space of width equivalent to two scooters.
-The next best thing is that the car is on the lowest in the priority list of car thieves. Even Padminis in some cases are attracting a bit of a higher resale values than similarly old 800's. So even if the 800 is parked is risky and theft prone areas the chances are minimal of it being stolen.

Re: Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-1991)

I have learned driving on Premier Padmini in 1991 (I was 14-15 at that time) and my father taught me driving. Since then, till 2001-02 (that is for 10 years) I was driving occasionally and regularly after getting my DL in 1995, but believe me, since 2001 after I bought a used 800 with my own money, my driving skills improved substantially within few months and I actually started enjoying driving and even though I was driving Esteem on B'lore roads for few years (1999-2001), I never enjoyed driving or appreciate the driving dynamics but after driving the 800, my confidence grew immensely. Such is the importance of 800 in my life.
I wonder if someone else has experienced this.
PS: Even the first thread started by me after joining T-BHP is about re-christening the M-800.

Re: Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-1991)

It was the year 2000 and I was driving my 1996 AcTg M800 Neptune Blue to my job at the Sahar airport mumbai one evening at around 6:30 pm . The sun had not set and there was still light and to those of you who are familair with Bombay I was driving on the long stretch of the western express highway and back then the traffic was a bit lesser than today I was driving at around 60kmph and from behind me a Silver M800 zipped by me at around 80 kmph now you may think why I am boring you with all this but the M800 was a Left Hand Drive (LHD) with original silver paint and a rear defogger and rear wash wipe too . So I guess it was a suzuki imported from some european country . Tried following it but the driver was too fast . Continued to drive on that route for the next one year but never saw the M800 again . I sold my M800 after 8 yrs 1996 to 2004 . Upgraded to alto and happy with it . No complaints with the 800 though it never failed me . Nor does the Alto .

My car has completed 25 years of flawless service and it is still rocking. Yesterday I have got the mandatory RTO fitness test done for a period of five years (valid till August 2017).The car has very much become a part of my life. It still dons the original paint and I have kept it as original as possible.
25 years with the same car now seems quite usual, but nevertheless the Maruti 800 always thrills me.It has got a new battery but it will need new footwear soon.

Re: Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-1991)

This is our Maruti 800 Std (our first car), bought new from Popular Automobiles in 1995. Last week after 17 Years and 10 days of living with us she completed 1,00,000 km. The first picture is of me as a 9 year old kid in the "Brand New Car" just after the first weekly wash (which has been religiously carried out ever since). The car was repainted a couple of years ago for the 15 year test (the painter was amazed to find just a 2 inch patch of rust under the rear bumper ina 15 year old car) and is in stock condition except for the internally operated boot lid and fuel lid and 155/70-R12 tyres.

Even though other cars have come and gone in the family she has stolen all our hearts and continues to bring a smile to every one of our faces...... and still manages to turn heads even in the company of much swankier cars. I event went to my wedding in this car decorated with white flowers. Now she shares garage space with Bright Red A Star Zxi (Spiritual Sucessor?)

Re: Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-1991)

My uncle still owns a 2001 5 speed version.
Apart from increased power it came with coil springs at rear.

He was away for 2 months on a outstation trip and his 5 speed M800 felt in my lap.

i thoroughly enjoyed driving that car in those 2 months.
In fact i drove to bhiwandi from dadar to get Pdi of my Nano done in that M800.

My uncle uses this as his backup car ( He now owns a vento Tdi )

It is called as FRONTIE in gujrat.
I missed buying a well maintained 1997 M800 4 years back.

Re: Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-1991)

Ramon, that's a really sweet 800. Looks immaculate, right down to the fonts on the license plates. The new Suzuki logo at the rear looks a bit out of place, but otherwise it's a pretty clean looking car.

Thankyou KL01BE & AyAn!. I live at Nanthencode. The rear looked too bland with the boot lock removed. Thats why I ve put the "Suzuki Logo".

Re: Maruti 800 Nostalgia (1984-1991)

Wow what a thread !
Brings back memories of my red 800.

My dad owned 3 800s. He bought the 1st model in 1990 or so and it was white in color! I wasn't even born then! He sold it in 1994 when I was a year old and bought the 2nd model in red color. BLB 1619 was the number.
This car was used till 1999 when my dad bought another same 800 in red from Maruti True Value, lower parel.
Used the car till 2011 and clocked 61000kms. I loved that car and me and my younger bro were really sad when we sold it off. Bought a Spark after that.
I remember taking out the 800 after my ssc board exams got over and driving it in the area. I really miss it and if possible I would love to own one again! But I want an SS80. I'll save up for that and surely buy it one day.

Here are some pics of my 800:
