Read in the Economic Times today that most premium SUV makers such as BMW, Auti, JLR and VW are plannin on manufacturing/ assembling there SUV's in India to price it below 30 lakhs. If true, a welcome move indeed!

Quote from ET:
"High-end imported SUV makers will soon assemble/ manufacture their cars in India to cut costs and high duties. Prices of the new fleet are likely to drop to sub-30 lakh levels"

Would love to buy x1/q3 at 23-25 lacs.

It would be killer segment.

Wow i would definitely want LR to be manufactured here in india. It would be cheaper to buy and maintain too,and over the years it would be freely available in 2nd hand market

If only honda could up its commitment to our market and ensure cheaper pricing for the CRV. Its not like they lacked a customer base so long as prices were sensible.

I can't imagine anyone buying a CRV if the germans are made available at a comparable price point.

Out of the manufacturers listed in the above article, I'd bet on VW Tiguan hitting the roads earlier given the VW investment in India.

This is quite simply the Fortuner effect. The success of Toyota's SUV (700 - 1000 units per month) has left the industry stunned. Never before has a 20 lakh vehicle sold so successfully in the market. BMW, Audi, JLR and VW know there is a dearth of good diesel SUVs in the 20 - 30 lakh segment, and will now line up for their own share of the pudding. After all, atleast 40% of those who spend 20 lakhs can easily shell out another 5 - 7 for a better brand / SUV.

Don't forget : SUVs are way more profitable than cars. Link to related thread.
