Saw a brand new Maruti Alto LXI. All the badging were stickers. No metal at all. If you could get these stickers at Maruti service stations, one can turn his car into any variant, or at least gimmick that:)

Yes the new Alto's are priced lower than the ones sold3 years ago & hence the sticker instead of a monogram.

Earlier too the entry level version(without a/c & power steering) used to sport a sticker only, they have only carried it to all variants now.

Older Altos came with badges. It was the Alto standard(non-AC) which was having stickers.

another wonder why. rather wonder how

i bought a laura 2.0 last week. and there is absolutely no badging which says whether the car is a 2.0 or a 1.9. since i am in indore, and the euro IV aren't applicable here yet, the 1.9 variant is also sold along with it.

now can anyone help me here?
how to know whether the dealer has given me a 1.9 laura or a 2.0 laura?

For that matter i'm sure you get those metal badges as spares at service stations and can turn varients around. The only way of fool proofing to a certain extent is to have them embossed, but then again come to think of it, that would look gross!:Frustrati

A friend of mine told me that he had his car's metal badging stolen. Not sure why would anyone do that or how would anyone do that:Shockked: If these are available at stores, any idea about pricing/labour?

Interesting question. Maybe others can pitch in, but here are few options:
Service booklet has a series of 3-letter codes that explains the specs of the car, and one of the 3-letter code will be about the engine. Here is an example:

A8D luxury equipment
G0C 5-speed manual transmission
K8B notchback
T71 4-cylinder diesel engine 1.9 L unit 03G.1
SQ9 SKD vehicles for Poland
0V2 Manufacturing sequence Ustkamenogorsk

Second option is run a VAG scan by the dealer and that will give you the engine module details as below:

Address 01: Engine Labels: 03G-906-016-BKC.lbl
Part No SW: 03G 906 016 DJ HW: 028 101 188 3
Component: R4 1,9L EDC G000SG 6250
Revision: 12345678 Serial number: SKZ7Z0G4134566
Coding: 0050071
Shop #: WSC 73430 790 00000

Note down the 17 digit VIN of your car. Use any Skoda VIN decoder freely available on the net. Here's two:
