Fiat Linea T-Jet to be launched in September-WheelsUnplugged Automobile Industry News

Quote:
Fiat India today disclosed that it would be launching the much-anticipated Linea T-Jet in September.
The Fiat Linea T-Jet has been caught testing near Pune and earlier at the Auto Expo this year, Fiat showcased it as part of their huge line-up of exhibits.

The company’s corporate communications team said, “Our next launch is the Fiat Linea T-Jet. We will launch the vehicle during the end of August or the beginning of September. Fiat’s Linea T-Jet, according to our sources, has been tested thoroughly in India to suit our roads, fuel quality and traffic conditions. The vehicle will have the turbocharged 1.4-liter petrol engine that can be tuned to give either 120PS or 152PS.” Auto experts are hoping that Fiat has pulled up its socks and fixed its long standing fuel efficiency issues with the new Linea.

Will FIAT replace our national engine (MJD) with T-jet ? in any case, FIAT is going to be in benefit.

Are the people on this website talking about fuel efficiency issues with the Linea or with Fiat petrol engines in general? Since when has the Linea been suffering from FE issues?

The T-Jet is a Turbo-petrol. The question of replacing the Multijet Diesel engine with turbo-petrol does not arise. So far, it also doesn't seem that Linea 1.4 petrol will be removed from the market after the Tjet has been launched.

Precisely, quite ludicrous. Journalism is down in the dumps (as some would say, like everything else), sad.

Quite right. A lot of stuff written on these car-websites is irresponsible and incorrect, not to mention using words in a way that confuse the reader, like the case in point. Some of the auto-shows on the TV channels are hilarious too at times.

Linea AT model is called "Absolute" (higher end model, above the "Emotion" in India) in countries like Brazil, sporting the "Dualogic" AT gearbox. However, the "Absolute" model is available there only with the 1.9L, 130bhp Petrol/Ethanol engine, which is yet to launch in India. Probably this is what they meant by relaunching Linea in 2012(probably also revamping the platform/design- if the website link provided above is to be believed).

It's good to see that Fiat has a product that has performance too. Last Fiat I enjoyed having was the Fiat Palio 1.6 GTX which was modified with cold air intake, supercharger, free flow exhaust, remap and was delivering about 135bhp. But that was 10 years back. With the new Fiat Linea there are a lot of possibility with engine already having a turbo, means that it has surely has stronger internals and will give the opportunity to add more power to this engine.
But, can the Linea handle all that power. We are talking about 150+ bhp here which is 40%+ more power over the stock. Sure the chassis is strong and well built but it's suspension that is tuned more for better ride quality than handling that would matter. And let's not forget more torque calls for an Clutch upgrade knowing the compromises the Fiat India does, that should be on top of the list.

More than the tuning of just the engine I guess tuning up the suspension and brakes will be the first priority. With better brakes and suspension setup and some bigger turbo, front mount intercooler, remap, this car would be burning the roads with only close competitor being the Laura 1.8TSI.

I dont know why people are confused in the BHP figures of T-Jet. Its available in Europe and Brazil in 120 and 152 PS. The latter one I think is only in Brazil but I´m not sure. In India we´re getting the 120 PS tuned engine ofcourse detuned to 110 PS for our fuel. Is it too difficult for people to get the hang of this!

Finally, the T-Jet arrives. IMO, it should have been launched earlier (late 2009), considering that every month in the meanwhile has allowed the ANHC to gain a firmer foothold and the SX-4 to be rejuvenated with the VVT engine. With used car prices for Civic undercutting the territory of 7 L Rs., the competition is going to be tough. Pricing for the T-Jet will have to be very careful. As it appears, a 110 horses TCed 1.4L for Linea against a 116 horses NAed 1.5L for ANHC would lead to stiff comparisons, not to count the interiors, A.S.S., resale etc. The leather seats have been a good move, hope the interiors are better too. At the expo in Jan, there was talk of a variant with the Dualogic gearbox, it doesn't seem to be part of the package. All in all, a much anticipated and welcome addition to the Fiat family.

Well you must know by now that we *people* are not as naturally gifted as yourself

I dont have any problems with state of tune in Brazil or Europe. Nor do I have a problem with detuning cars for Indian fuel. What I have aprehentions about is, why does Fiat India in particular detune to this extent that too on a car like Linea with high kerb weight.

The ANHC globally (NA notwithstanding) comes in tune of around 120 bhp max, we get around 116 odd, fine. The Fiat on the contrary is 10 horses less??? If it was a 150 bhp engine it would have been fine. But 10 horses less for a 120 bhp engine simply doesnt cut it. Honda will still own the flag of having the most horses whereas Fiat's so called performance petrol sedan, no matter what the torque figures are, would still fall short in outright power.... And this is a performance sedan???

Fiat is going Cedia way with Linea and Punto imo. Keep coming out with new stickers, new variants of the same engines (albeit with different turbo setups), leather seats, racing stripes, etc. What they cant get right and need to do right in the first place is.... New dashboard design (current one looks dated) and new plastics (improved 10 fold) and than even with the current engine and A.S.S they would sell. Its not the A.S.S thats the only deterent that comes in the way of Fiat (as claimed by its fans) but its the shoddiness in the finish of the product itself that gives ppl nightmare. That would explain why Skodas still sell and Fiat doesnt. As even whatever might be problems with Skodas A.S.S the product fit and finish when u take it new off the show room is in a different league when compared to Punto or Linea.

@Aseem
Will you pay the same money for a Fiat Linea that you pay for Honda or Skoda? I don't believe so. You get what you pay.
FYI Skoda is not doing too well either.

The Linea torque figures seem to suggest that it would be good enough to propel the Linea off the straight line faster than the City, but will turbo lag play a part in hampering outright acceleration? The top speeds should be about the same considering only a deficit of about 6 horses to the Linea.

First of all the official power rating is not yet released & we are debating on speculations of it being 110 bhp. I'm quite sure it will be more than that.

Secondly, the ANHC does not feel like having 116 under its hood & feels shaky beyond 140kmph, the Linea in comparison is way ahead in handling, stability & poise. Also the ride quality.

After paying almost 10 lac for ANHC, what are the features one gets?

We keep talking about plastic quality.Fiat suffers in fit & finish, however, the overall quality & ruggedness is better than many others. Its the coarse feel of the dashboard that gives a 'cheap' impression (owing to the raised grain structure) & is the main culprit.

If you call the dashboard of Linea dated, then the interior look of Polo & Vento should be of stone age, same with SX4.

The fact remains that at the price what Linea is available - you can't ask for more (better fit finish not withstanding)
