I was hoping VW would update their site for the pricing. The car configurator on the VW site still shows N/A for the 1.6 Polo.

TD not available! That is the main problem with this car. Not sure why VW is treating the 1.6 as a step son. Last weekend I was at the Kolkata dealership with my 1.6. There were potential customers for 1.6 but no TD not even a display. My car became the show unit for some of them.

How can they launch a car on 31st aug when I along with few more have been driving it from around mid Aug? That is why VW is silent. They have already launched the 1.6 in Feb. Only waa not avaiable for sale at that time. They started taking booking from June and delivery from mid Aug. Either the media missed it, or VW wanted to keep a low profile, which I suspect is a definite possibility knowing the average Indian crib for FE. This is NOT going to give you 17 kmpl and they don't want to destroy the image 1.2 has created - of a fuel efficient German car.

I think launch would not be the correct word to be used here.

what i meant was that the volkswagen site has no mention of the official launch of the 1.6 polo. The 1.6 has been part of the configurator for quite some time now i agree but still under the price it says N/A.

Agree. Even the manual I received with the 1.6 does not have any mention of the1.6 l engine specs. Strangely it covers the 1.4 tsi. But then the manual is for the whole world.

Now that would be a dream come true. Lets hope VW provides that as an option in the coming months. Too much wishful thinking I guess.

Apparently the Polo 1.6 was "officially" launched today in delhi.
Here is the press release:

Volkswagen (VW), the German car maker has come up with an additional Polo - 1.6 L Petrol hatchback. After launching the 1.2-L Polo in the beginning of this year, Volkswagen yesterday unveiled a more gamey variant of the Polo hatchback starting at Rs 6.16 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).

The newfangled 1.6 L Polo bears a 4-cylinder petrol engine below its bonnet and has a 5-speed manual gear box. VW has exacted to have a fuel efficiency of 15.96 km/litre. The new Polo will be manufactured at the firm's Chakan (Pune) plant along with the other Polo variants. The car is available to customers once the company states in an affirmation.

Volkswagen India director for passenger cars Neeraj Garg said in the release that with the introduction of this variant, the Polo gets even more energising for VW buyers as it becomes more brawny and fun to drive while continuing to maintain all the features available in the 1.2-L Polo. The originally 1.2-L Polo was launched in March 2010 with a price tag of Rs 4.8 lakh.

A bit late in the day for VW.
