This could become the new favorite among tuner cars.

Drove my in-laws Polo 1.6 down to Pune from Mumbai on the 10th of this month. I think its an excellent car, and I really enjoyed driving it. Was a tad disappointed by the stated power figures and the actual delivery don’t somehow match, not sure if I was revving it enough but didn’t feel a "surge" like the one I feel in the Fiesta during acceleration.
But was completely blown away by the quality of interiors. The car is in silver and looks like a million dollars. Gear shift quality is exquisite and the car holds the road pretty well. Was very impressed by the suspension of the Polo, tab bouncy but very well sorted out.
One thing i noticed was that the engine was slightly noisy and that the coolant was already below the minimum mark and the cars done only 2000 kms. Isn’t that strange?

I am at 1600 in 25 days. Was planning a 500 km round trip this weekend, but sons half yearly exams got extended due to holiday "in anticipation of Eid" last friday.
Could have crossed 2100. :-(

This is for the people who own the 1.6 Polo only:-

Do the interiors differ a lot from the older 1.2L Polo? Also, is there an automatic version available? Does it come with seat height adjustment as well as rake and reach steering? I am just a curious person! Please let me know the answer to these queries. I insist Polo 1.6 owners only as they will have 1st hand info! Sorry :-)

You dont need someone who owns a 1.6 Polo to answer that.

The interiors are exactly the same as the 1.2 Polo Highline.
There is no auto version available.
The seat is height adjustable and the steering has reach and rake adjustment.

It is a one of the few hot hatches.

It's not a case of "older 1.2 Polo" --- it is the same car. It is just that the 1.6 engine was not made available at first.

Now that Fabia 1.6 is also launched, it would be nice to have a Polo 1.6 vs Fabia 1.6 comparo.

Hi Anirban,

FE figures from our Polo 1.6:
  • 1,075 kilometers run
  • First fill at 37 km for Rs. 2,500.
  • Second fill for Rs. 3,000.
  • Third fill at 1,075 km.
Constant rate of Rs. 58.47 per liter of petrol

Average of 11.03 kilometers per liter*

* 100% city driving, mostly bumper to bumper, >20% AC (as Bangalore has become hotter now). I will be getting an even more accurate figure during the next refill as I forgot to note the kilometers during the second refill.

The new Fabia engines are the same ones as in Polo. I checked out a TD car and found that they have a lot pf parts sharing time time. The switches (light and wiper) are exactly same.

Bumping up the old thread

All,
There has not been any movement in the Polo 1.6 threads recently. Not sure why, but it seems people have suddenly lost interest in the car.

Any specific reason?

Meanwhlie there was some lull from VW as well. Some of the dealers were not taking new bookings for 1.6 during Oct. They have now started back again. The expected delivery time is around 3 months.

Anirban, lack of interest is due to the fact that VW has not been able to deliver 1.6 Polo's as committed by their dealerships. They are delivering a bunch of lies and excuses instead. Dealerships now say that the production will restart in Feb-Mar 2011. Sorry to state, but they maybe going the Skoda way.

Polo Highline - New addition

Starting Feb 2011 Polo Highlines are being delivered with electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors (EORVM).
Unfortunately with this addition the driver side controls for rear window glass operation has been discontinued.
