SPOTTED !!! Toyota Hilux -- on Fortuner lines

I happened to go out for lunch (to innovative film city, its walkable distance from my office), and I get to see a HOT looking beast !! I initially thought its a tata pick up truck based on Sumo Grande, but then I realized, I was standing adjacent to Toyota Factory, and there you go, its Toyota Hilux, based on Fortuner, it shares the same engine and i guess a similar interiors. Looks HOT though !!

Nice catch! I'm sure Toyota won't launch a pick-up truck in India. But I guess they'd launch something on the same platform.

Why not? After seeing the Southern Section of TBHP growing in numbers, and only 2 players to compete against (3rd is a sleeper), The Japnese-T can very well launch a lifestyle 4x4...

Southern part of TBHP = 4x4 Section
2 players = M&M and Maruti
(3rd TATA = Xenon, TelcoLine 4wd, Safari 4wd in small numbers)

----------EDIT------------

Edited the pic to highlight the hidden HILUX logo...

Bring it on Toyota. Hilux is TG's most favorite off-roader and its time these beasts did their job in India.

Remember this!?

nice scoop, however, I am quite doubtful if Toyota will launch this in India.

Pickups will not give Toyota the image they want to be in - remember stopping qualis. Besides, India doesnt has the market for pickups except being used mostly as carriagevans etc.

Like the Sumo Grande came out of a pick up, i would like to see another version from Toyota coming out of this pick up, ala cheaper fortuner for the masses !!

Innova looks too bland but something like this in looks & seating 7 or 8, Xylo/grande will have serious TROUBLE.

will have to wait & watch though. I like the front end of this beast, looks real mean & menacing.

The front is clearly a pre facelift Fortuner, the steering wheel too is a result of cost cutting(No audio controls etc) and the alloys look 16". Can someone confirm it please..

Toyota in most likelihood wont launch it here is what I feel.

There are three vehicles that share this platform. Two are already launched in India. Only the Hi-lux remains to reach out shores.

I agree, these pick-ups look cool, but reality is that the market is very limited. The xenon has barely sold despite being a very good package.

good work if toyota launches it in india. i will buy one with my eyes closed!

ofcourse i would buy a 4x4.

here is my 3 month old Hilux 4x4 2.7ltr petrol 158 bhp, ABS, twin airbags, PW, PS and AT in Dubai.

it has the same interior as a Fortuner, same engine as petrol fortuner, but longer than fortuner. incidently Innova also has a similar interior and engine.

Nice Catch there. Will dig out some information from my neighbor who works at the Toyota Factory.

The vehicle looks good and the front looks menacing. The market is very limited and never know with Toyota, they can create a segment itself and sell this one in decent numbers.

thats previous generation pickup truck as you can see the difference with the 2010 model.

infact Fortuner is derived from Hilux!

I've regularly spotted the mamoth in south Delhi. Its a mehroonish-red colored Hilux, with Delhi registration and would be 6-8 yrs old IMO. On all occasions I've been unable to snap pics of the beast. Let me see if I can try getting some pics of it.

I rem TG episode where they took the Hilux to the North(?) Pole racing against a dog pulled sled. The vehicle has tyres which costed about 10k pounds apiece.
