250NM of torque at that rpm!!
That's gonna be whoossh!!

Seriously, the diesel might be a game changer, but I don't feel that the Petrol would put in much of a dent in the ANHC sales figures. But yes, Linea, Fiesta, SX4 will definitely feel the heat.

Waiting eagerly for GTO's TD report.

One thing I didn't understand

For Highline - 15 inch alloy wheels (04 Nos.) + 14 inch steel spare wheel

14" Spare Wheel??
Does it mean 3 (15") + 1 (14") wheel combination if case of Puncture???

Cannot digest it.

Yes the combination you have mentioned in case of a puncture is correct. But whhat the company does for e.g .is if the tyre size is 190/65 R15 then the spare will be 190/70 R14 or something which basically means that although the spare is a size smaller , its sidewall is more than the standard tyres so all the wheels are properly aligned and touch the ground.

I noticed a really funny mistake from VW press release doc. How can they afford to do such a silly mistake in a highly anticipated press release.

Link : http://www.volkswagen.co.in/media/co...n_launches.pdf

They have quoted the prices starting from 699000 Lakhs? Which works out to 69 Billion rupees or 6990 crores!!!

But with only two variants and price between two variants being 2L standard, I guess there is a huge gap in between them.
Moreover the power graph shows only max of 77.5 kW isnt that too small

Yes.. killer prices.
Already there's been a load of bookings for Vento in Cochin(this is without even seeing the car and getting to know about the price). And now since the prices are out, guess the bookings will increase.
Thank God that I booked mine 2 weeks back.

2011 is going to be a very hard year for Honda India - now only God can save their management with the devil-may-care attitude.

Potential trenline customers cant help but feel a little shortchanged tho... Its a little irritating that they did not include the following in the trendline package
  • Black Paint
  • Rear Armest
  • Electric ORVM
  • Front Seat Backpockets
  • Fog lights, front and rear
  • MultiFunctional Display
Anyone would have paid 10-15 K more for this stuff...

Its even more irritating cause other middle models like the Linea Dynamic, City Exi and Dzire Vxi have better features

The price gap is around 1.3 lacs. Even that's no small number.

77.5 KW ~ 104-105 bhp. Are you by any chance confusing KW with bhp?

It may also dethrone City for some time to come just like SX4 did in its hay day. But one would have to factor, how many of the numbers VW does, are from VW Trendline Petrol, and how many are from Highline to get the true picture.

As a prespective buyer in this segment, I can tell you something called as brand erosion. Why wont someone buy a Dezire Zxi with all bells and whistles and instead settle for Verna Base or Fiesta? Because they rather be assocaited with a 7-9 lakh rupee car than to be seen in 5-7 lakh rupee car. In other words given a choice between 7 lakh top end of desire and 7 lakh base of Fiesta, many folks will simply jump ship. The reason behind that is when you price something between 7-10 most ppl end up buying the car starting at 7 lakhs, therefore the one driving 10 lakh rupee car does not get the same brand value/snob value.

Now Honda can easily chop off 50k of Honda City EMT by shaving off airbags and ABS. Kudos to them they havent yet given into the temptation of making safety optional at the expense of numbers. Same is true for Jazz. Its safe to say given a choice Indians would go for a music system and make safety optional if it means saving money, but Honda has not gone that route.

So by having City start at 8.5 lakhs, Honda gives its owners some exclusivity and bragging rights over Vento P in particular. Yes we can talk about features, but I think in time we will realize that space, engineering, engine are more important than climate control and some other goodies. City's petrol package would still be unbeatable.

The diesel is a totally different value proposition though. If it had come with an Auto, it would have been a game changer for VW. I welcome competition, and wish VW best of luck. At the end of the day, cosumer wins.
Totally agree with Aseem's views.

To add to it, as I said in an earlier post, the VW Vento may be a good car, but what is the use of it being a good car if it is made available to the customer after oppressive waiting periods.

The dealership at Moti Nagar takes great pride in stating that there is still a long waiting period on the Polo

Another dealership has sent an SMS stating the prices and inviting bookings from today. He also mentions that there may different waiting periods for different colours.
