Re: Renault India to launch 5 new cars in next 3 yrs

Details -

Renault India will unveil its latest salvo, a small car, on the 29th of October. The car to be called Pulse is the third of the five new products that the French carmaker plans to launch by the end of 2012.

The Pulse is a hatchback based on the Nissan Micra. So, it too shares the same V-platform like the Micra and will share the same engines and underpinnings as well and will be built in the same Chennai factory as the Nissan.

The Renault Pulse will be powered by the same three pot 1.2-litre petrol engine and the 1.5-litre diesel engine which does duty on the Nissan Micra. The suspension duties too will be handled by a similar setup of MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam axle at the rear.

Inside, besides a new design for the dashboard, a different steering wheel and new inside door panels, things will remain more or less the same, be it the occupant space on the inside or even the boot size. But that's understandable given the Pulse and the Micra will not only have the exact same wheelbase and front and rear track measurements, but the overall dimensions of the Pulse will very closely mirror that of the Micra as well.

The big difference between the two cars though will be the positioning. The Pulse will be positioned above the Micra and more as a premium offering. As a result the Pulse will cost a bit more. It will however come with a lot of bells and whistles. It will have driver and passenger airbags and ABS for safety, and comfort and convenience features like climate control, keyless entry and start, and steering mounted controls among others.

Even ACI has it on their site now.
Renault Pulse to be revealed on October 29 - News - Autocar India
looks like it'll be mostly a badge-engineered clone of the Micra.
First it was Vento and Rapid (badge-engineered twins)
now Micra and Pulse
what next?

Re: Renault India to launch 5 new cars in next 3 yrs

"Nissan-Renault CEO, Mr. Carlos Ghosn will unveil the Renault compact car for India on the 29th of October 2011 on the eve of the first Indian Grand Prix. Now there is alot of confusion on which compact car Renault will launch in India. At one end, Renault denied the Twingo and Clio for India. While on the other end the Modus was spied around the Renault-Nissan facility near Chennai. Renault denied the Modus by saying that the car was on test for global markets. However, the company subsequently updated its website, which now showcases a tall boy company with covers on.
It is still uncertain which car Renault will be launching but it will be called Pulse. The Renault Pulse is based on Nissan’s V-platform and will be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine and 1.5-liter diesel engine, both from the Micra. Even the underpinnings are similar and the Pulse will be made at the same place as the Micra. With front suspension duties being handle by MacPherson struts and rear by a torsion beam, the Pulse is a Micra with a different face (similar to Fabia-Polo). However Renault has given the Pulse a new dashboard design and new steering wheel. But the majority part of it remains the same, with both cars having similar dimensions and space."

Re: Renault India to launch 5 new cars in next 3 yrs

If Renault is going to position a car that looks like that as a premium car , god help them. Renault's pricing/positioning has been consistently daft in India. They need to get it right with this hatchback more than anything else. Let's hope Renault have learnt their lessons.

If they're already calling it a "premium" hatchback, then I wouldn't be hoping for much in terms of learning a lesson. Seeing the Nissan Sunny, it would appear that they are trying to make Nissan the value brand and Renault the premium brand in India. Not good news for those of us waiting to see how the Duster pans out...

Re: Renault India to launch 5 new cars in next 3 yrs

"If a report on French newspaper La Tribune is right, Renault sets off developing a new ultra low-cost car on the 1st of January 2012 for a price of under 2 lakh rupees for emerging market places such as India, China and Brazil. An improved sibling with better emission and fuel economy ratings could make it to European markets a few years after the cost-down variant sees daylight. The launch time frame is not mentioned in the article but it is popular knowledge that it takes about four years for a mature car company to execute a project."

This is the all new Dacia Lodgy to be launched in Eastern Europe. I would love Renault to bring this to India.

This model belongs to the same category as the Tata Estate/Indigo Marina/Baleno Altura and the like. So my half-baked guess is that it may not make it to our shores anytime now or in the near future. And of course, the thing is a stunner!

The models that you've mentioned were estate versions of sedans, no? Because, I see this more in line with the Suzuki Ertiga. Yep, as you mentioned, going by Renault's launch history, it's a slim chance.

Huge cost savings for the company, shared body parts. I think this is a good move by Renault, extra moolah without any significant investment.

I beg your pardon but this falls in the Ertiga category by the look of it. So there is a real possibility that this MPV could make it here but would Renault-Nissan risk stealing sales from Nissan Evalia? (although both look completely different)

Yes, looks like an Ertiga sized car. Here is some more info on the Lodgy:

Re: Renault India to launch 5 new cars in next 3 yrs

Renault eyes Tata Nano rival, plans sub-Dacia cars for emerging markets.

Quote:
Developed together with alliance partner Nissan, the automaker will unveil a budget model priced at about 5,000 euros ($6,400) that will reach the market at the end of 2014, Latribune.fr said on Tuesday. An additional model, priced at about 3,000 euros, will be designed by the alliance to take on the Nano, considered the world's cheapest car, in its Indian home market, the report added.
Both models will be built in Chennai, India, and are not destined for Europe.
