The complete VW family (read Polo, Jetta and now Passat) seems to have dawned the same smile or grudge or whatever you call this front grill and stance. Personally i liked the previous ones over the current lot, specially the Jetta. The premium-ness quotient between each of these visually, is minimal.

darn. have been really looking forward to the 2011 model. prospect of 2.0L diesel with a DSG makes me smile. but in terms of design it looks awful. this one makes the current gen look cinderella. i hope the real thing is something different.

Are you sure that the picture in post # 17 is Passat, it could be 2011 Passat CC (Comfort Coupe), which is one of the most beautiful modern cars around. Alas, it is not available in India.

Volkswagen are killing themselves in the D segment.They are acting so kiddish and damaging there image.The DSG gearbox which is so popular and developed by VW is not available in the VW range in India.The Passat first came with a PD engine which was too noisy and then it was replaced by the common rail diesel engine but that was not BS-III compliant so that was also discontinued and now its only available in a 1.8 TSI engine with only manual.So many changes has led to a lot of depreciation in Passat resale value.So people prefer buying the Superb over Passat which will fetch a better value to its owner.

VW also brought in the older Touareg and Phaeton which had been discontinued in the international market early on.I don't know what is VW upto.

There are no official pictures of the redesigned Passat that have been released. Hence all the photochops shown here are just renderings. However, it is very likely that the front will have the new corporate look.
One should also note that this is not a complete redesign, but a "refresh". Most of the interior components will remain the same. The interior size will remain the same. It will just have some new exterior panels.

Well atleast the 2011 version is much better looking than the current one - atleast as far as I can tell !. The simple design and uncluttered flow lines are much better on the 2011 version. Although a little polo / vento like, but hey those aren't bad lookers by any stretch of imagination.

I certainly hope that this one makes it onto our shore sooner than later - and yes, VW - can we please have more engine options as well.

@rahul016 - Nice pics indeed.

Cheers !

Congrats and thanks for the pics. I understand lots of manufacturers are sticking to some kind of "trademark design" to give the feel that different cars belong to a particular stable.

But this is not fair enough ! if the front carry so much design similarities between two cars belonging to two separate segments, it doesnt look good. Each car in a segment would need a different treatment and individuality.

Is this for cost cutting? If they use the same bumper / grill, they can procure it from the same vendor for the same price for two cars and charge the D segment customer for a much higher price !

Also some one posted an instant status rise when two cars have similar designs - a polo owner being stared as the Jetta / Passat owner; yes highly possible. Think the other way - a passat / Jetta owner being looked by a D-segment owner [another manufacturer] and being confused for a Polo / Vento ! [Trust me, it will be much more annoying if he/she happened to overhear some one saying that this car looks like a "Polo/Vento" when they have paid the premium for this car.

went to Goa on the weekend spotted a lot of new Passats with "Red" number plate

In the stretch between Palolem and Margao, there is a ghat section, spotted atleast 15 different Passats each one escorted by 2 Vento highlines doing the rounds. I got curious and found out that there is a test drive being organized at the intercontinental Goa

eagerly waiting for TBHPs test drive and review
