Overall the design is safe and uninspiring, the thing is that Honda is looking at its main competitors car, the corolla and have designed a car to compete with it. They have not taken into account Hyundai with its all new Avante which im sure shocked the living daylights out of Honda. If Hyundai gets there handling and feel of the right, they may have a future segment leader in there hands or else we will continue to see the boring old Corolla and now the Civic dominate. (im talking more so with respect to the USA market which is where the volumes are for these cars).

2012 Honda Civic Launches in the US

Honda announces the brand new Civic in the 2012 disguise. Pretty much the same visually. Engines also remain broadly unchanged except for the Si version. However all the variants seem to be packing more fuel efficiency than before. I'm surprised by Honda's lack of effort in the appearance department. Very competitive segment that is now with the Cruze and Elantra. Can Honda continue to leverage its historic good name?

In fact, the looks are more on the conservative side compared to the 8th gen.

India bound 2011/12 Honda Civic ? EDIT : Clean pictures on pg. 19-hondacivic_2012_1024x768_wallpaper_01.jpg

Featuring the widest array of engine choices available in its class, the 2012 Honda Civic is designed to even better meet the diverse needs of the compact-vehicle buyer when it launches in the spring of 2011. The entire redesigned ninth-generation Civic lineup will become more fuel efficient with two models - the all-new Honda Civic HF and the Civic Hybrid - each delivering fuel economy estimates of more than 40 mpg on the highway.
Built on the tradition of Honda fuel efficiency, the economical Honda Civic HF model will be the most fuel-efficient gasoline-only powered Civic in the lineup when it launches this spring. Equipped with a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine, the Honda Civic HF is targeted to earn EPA-estimated fuel economy of 41 mpg on the highway. The 2012 Civic Hybrid, which will be outfitted for the first time with a lithium-ion battery and a larger 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine, is expected to achieve an EPA-estimated city/highway combined fuel economy of 45 mpg, an improvement of 4 mpg compared to the current Civic Hybrid. Both the Honda Civic HF and Civic Hybrid models will be equipped with aerodynamic components for improved efficiency and Honda ECO Assist™ technology, an innovation that can enhance efficient vehicle operation while providing feedback to promote more efficient individual driving styles.

"The Civic is the only model in the industry that can deliver on all fronts - fuel economy, sporty performance, smart packaging, alternative fuel and long-term value," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda Motor Co.,Inc. "For the ninth-generation Civic, we are emphasizing improved fuel economy across the board, from the hybrid sedan to the sporty Si model."

In addition to the Honda Civic HF and Civic Hybrid models, the Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe and Civic GX Natural Gas models are also estimated to achieve improved fuel economy compared to the current models. The Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe achieve an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 39 mpg on the highway, an improvement of 3 mpg when compared to the current model. The Civic Natural Gas vehicle is anticipated to earn a 7 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the current model. The Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe and Civic Natural Gas models will all be equipped with the Honda ECO Assist technology.

Along with improved fuel economy, the new Honda Civic lineup also delivers more performance, particularly with the Civic Si. The Civic Si sedan and coupe models will be equipped with a larger, more powerful 2.4-liter engine as well as a new 6-speed manual transmission. The new engine is anticipated to deliver 200 horsepower with 170 ft-lb of torque. Even with the larger engine and a 22 percent increase in torque, Civic Si is targeted to achieve an EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of 31 mpg; an increase of 2 mpg when compared to the current model.

The 2012 Civic lineup includes a sedan and a coupe with conventional gasoline models, a new "HF" high fuel economy version, two sporty "Si" performance versions, along with one hybrid and a natural gas alternative-fuel variant.

great pics sid. Good to see a clean interior shot. Not sure if it looks as good as it was expected to be. The whole thing looks a bit "twisted" towards the driver. I hope all trims will have satnav. If not, I wonder how that portion of the console will look like.

Some notes on interiors.
  • I dont see paddle shifters. There is no S option in AT.
  • Did not particularly like the steering wheel design. Far too many controls on steering wheel
  • Hand brake design back to regular one compares to the Z design in current model
  • Tweeters look better positioned compared to the windscreen firing ones on current model
  • A/c vents look all out of place with different shapes
  • Some of the existing storage spaces near gear lever seem to have disappeared
  • Nav controls look tacky in picture. Wonder how will the console look like without them
  • A/c knobs in different size, looks out of sync
  • More distraction on the top console. Looks like odo/trip/time/temp display is added there

Thanks for the pics, Sid.
The Si looks hot. I know its asking for too much, but hope they launch the Si here to take on the upcoming Laura vRS.

IMO the most ugly looking Civic is this. The current model in India looks so stunning compare to the new look.

Are they going to sell this for a cheaper price? Looks very sleek and should have cost them cheap. The rear on the black car doesnt look that bad in these pictures.

Love the interiors!! the front end is pretty decent though more conservative than the sketches suggested.

I find the rear end of the car too quirky for the front and looks unresolved in terms of the overall design. hopefully it will be toned down for the indian release!

The US Models dont normally have the paddle shifters. The ASEAN/JDM one will definitely have them. Also we will get the regular music system with Honda City like interface and design. (one of the spied images on this thread have that image)

Whatever happened to clean designs?

Most car companies seem to be competing on who can put more creases on a car. This, personally to me, looks like a crumpled mess compared to the current-gen Civic, as if the lead designer crumpled a picture of the current Civic and went "Aha! There's my new Civic".

Looks like they mashed the ANHC and the Hyundai Verna (the new facelifetd version)and bloated it up. God I love my current generation Civic

Well the interiors are shocking to say the least. They look like they belong to some hi tech bus or expensive jeep, definitely not a saloon car.I am going to give this model a pass-earlier i was thinking about getting one.Now only the new verna or the Elantra is on my radar.

Disappointing. Looks like they actually went backwards. Dare I say it but the current Civic looks way better and so does the Altis compared to this.

This looks way too ANHCish. They should have made it like a baby Accord and not like a grown up ANHC.
