This is one time I wish same cars of different generations are sold side by side. I wish to see the current Civic to be sold along with the new one if and when launched here in India.

IMO, the sales of the current Civic has suffered only due to news of new version in the pipeline, won't be surprised to see a hike in numbers sold from this month onwards.

Big disappointment from Honda, expected a lot better from them. I don't see the point of this new Civic at all.

What in the world is that!! front is so City'ish and rear looks like that over-sized tail lamps were pasted to the boot at the last minute! If I was planning to buy a Civic, I would go for the current version.

BTW is there a trend here? OHC (great) -> NHC (boring to say the least) -> ANHC (much better)

Okay then !! Is it safe to assume that we get this version of the Civic in India? Honda does redo there designs a bit for China but this one doesn't seem overdone and may just be the Asia Model.

Got a call from Deccan Honda couple of hours back. The lady asked if I would like to exchange my Civic for the new Civic.

I was intrigued. New Civic? Already?

So asked if it is the new gen Civic that she is talking about.

"No sir, it is the last year's model with a sunroof."



Poor souls, I think they are really struggling to meet sales targets these days.

With the new quirky designs and not giving the overdue features in City and Civic when cars like New Fiesta come loaded with all bells and whistles, it is only a matter of time that Honda sales accelerate their downward cruise. Hope they get some sense and take quick action. It is always very difficult to recover a lost market.

But, whats happening to jap innovation?? Hyundai has direct injection petrol powering its accent/verna in many markets. Toyota and Honda has yet to introduce this technology even in higher models.

The interiors look extremely boxy. The exteriors look like someone blew up the ANHC, a big fat bloated version.

+1 to that. It has surely lost the X-Factor. Both interior and exterior. Though it will probably end up with more features compared to the current model. The saving grace could be if they launch an entry level (competitively priced) variant.

The rear view somehow reminds me of the prev gen Camry.

I'm so glad I took the plunge before this arrived.

Edit: Feature list has DRLs. And an Electric variable power assisted steering. So it loses HPS?

Disappointing!!!! utterly disappointing. Specially at a time when all companies are trying to give more n more features for the customers dough, Honda has been sitting on its back side milking away on its promised 'reliability'. The current civic has the iconic design that could have stood the test of the next 10 yrs without looking outdated. This one looks like a City on steroids.

Add to it the hideous interiors, the MID has been retained from the current model, but no double-din centre? it doesn't have ACC and to add to the insult the buttons for aircon vents seem to be lifted from the civic of 1990s!!!

its high time Honda falls flat on its face with woeful sales figure, its one thing to make a mistake, quite another to keep repeating them -- they are just waiting for a time when the customers don't call their bluff, its a disgrace and sham'e'!

I think the centre is double-din ie the HU, if removed will expose a 2-Din area. And it does seem to have ACC.

This seems to be a low end variant. No alloys, no ORVM indicators, no fogs .. AND, does it have a push-spindle on the RHS of the MID for resetting the trip-meter ?!! Edit: maybe not. There's another one on the LHS too.

I see a green ECON button on the LHS of the steering. Whats that?

Well, it is now apparent how difficult a job it is to follow up on an extremely well designed and beautiful product (the current generation civic). But I guess we will get used to the design. The basic design principles of proportion and uniqueness hold though.

Honda did make improvements in the face lifted current version in 2009, hopefully they will be ready to take on the competition which is ready to entice both the segments above and below it.

Does this mean we should expect new designs sooner for the city and crv as well?

This is the American Spec car and the Asian should have some more whistles. The rear end treatment on the Asian version is slightly better IMHO. The Asian version will be seen in a couple of days at the Shanghai Show.
