A great move by FORD India.
If i am not worng...This model is 5-6 lac cheaper then the Auto 4x4 model.

One doubt...

Is the same Gear Box (5 speed AT gearbox) used in 4x4 model ?

so almost 1 Lac difference between 4x4 and 4x2 version of 3.0 Ltr with AT.

but i am not sure whether its a good move as someone looking for AT and spending 18 lacs could have easily spent 1 Lac more and buy 4x4 so its not going to make much difference.

yeah AT version for the cheaper 2.5 Ltr version or MT for 3.0Ltr 4x4 would have made more sense.

That's a good move by Ford. A manual transmission for the 2WD would have reduced the price further.

Almost certain. Ford would not want to incur additional engineering/manufacturing costs for 2 gearboxes in a segment that hardly works for them.

Looks like Toyota are blinded with the Fortuner sales. They don't see the Endeavour actually selling in decent numbers thanks to the AT box.

Toyota, Wake up and get an AT in the Fortuner.

When the MT is selling like hot cakes with a premium pricing, why would they introduce the AT which is going to raise the prices as well. For that to happen, we need some solid product in the same range with the same or better quality and performance with a slightly lower price. We can expect toyota to respond in such a case. Till then, no hope !!

This is a welcome move by Ford India. Majority of the SUV owners in India never take their SUV's off the road so the additional expense on 4WD is a waste for them.

This move makes the Endeavour considerably cheaper than the Fortuner, which now retails at 19.23lakhs with a manual transmission and 4wd.

FORD India must have felt the heat from the sales and popularity of Toyota Fortuner.

nice to see the competition hotting up and customer getting all the benefits and choice to buy whatever he/she wants to buy!

anyway since TF is selling like hot cakes, as the japanese say "no need to fix it if its aint broken"! so no need to make ANY kinds of changes to TF.

FORD on the other hand need to counter TF, so it had to come out with 2WD Endeavour, which does reduce the cost and the benefit can be passed on to the customer. AT has a good future in India.

like some one said, "SUV owners hardly go OFFROAD" so why buy a 4WD vehicle? (SUVs go to the MALL, 4x4 go OFFROAD)!

i am sure TF would be launched in a 2WD mode around 16-18 lakhs as when toyota feels its the right time.

at the moment for me its Surprisingly Unaffordable Vehicle and i would wait for real 4x4 vehicle called THAR!

I feel for majority of the buyers who don't need 4x4, they will be happy about saving 1 lakh + the proportionate insurance/life tax.

I do agree with you that they shouldn't have discontinued the 3.0L 4x4 manual. If I buy a large SUV, it will be predominantly for highway cruising where I prefer the control off a manual transmission. I am with my Santro AT for city use. I was kind of upset with Ford's decision to discontinue the manual 4x4.

OT:Exactly.Surely Toyota are laughing their way to the bank right now and slowly,as the case will be,the scene wont remain as funny.Just then they are probably gonna swoop down with an AT and a 2WD and then we get to see the ads "Bookings open for limited time"

Good to see Ford realize that hardly any of the Indian SUV owners go off road (BHPians excluded,of course) and launch this 4x2.Should sell well.

The Difference between 4X4 & 4X2

In 3.0L 4X2 for a lakh of Ruppees less you dont get
* Front passenger and Driver Side curtain airbags
* The Headunit is a In-dash 6cd Changer similar to 2.5L
* No reverse camera
* No Bluetooth connectivity
* No satellite navigation

Is the 3.0L4X2 really worth for its price?

This is a great step by Ford India, it will open up the market, coz there is quite less competition in 15-16L segment. Endeavour is loved by most and the buyers of top end safari and scorpio, might wanna go for this one
