No clue, yet. Highly doubtful too, since the hatch was just launched, and they are currently struggling to beat the demand. I didn't know a Sedan version of the Swift existed. The last sedan Maruti was wishing about was the LIANA. Please do tell us more.

What, new Swift already?? Details please.

The newly launched (or to be launched) Swift Sport sports a 1.6 L engine.

hmm...i thought the swift sport is going to have a 1.5 vti engine from suzuki, which boasts of 125bhp or thereabouts... and the swift sport might debut in late 2006, or early 07', alongwith the 1.3 jtd swift; currently, suzuki is readying the 06' vitara for india; we might get a glimpse of it at the 06' auto expo, probably in feb- the vitara is going to have a 2.0 petrol, and the 1.8 ddi diesel is under "major" consideration....

and as for the swift 1.3 jtd...a diesel swift is undergoing tests right here in mumbai, but i haven't been able to get my hands on the car yet; so no info regarding engine, refinement etc...will keep all updated on that...

Hi thai
Swift sedan may happen next year but the bad news is its going to be designed by Maruti and probably offered only for India. India is one of the few markets obsessed with small sedans. Here is my prediction.
  • Maruti will stretch the wheel base by about 6 inches and give it all to the rear seat legroom.
  • The hatch is already pretty wide so no probs there
  • It will have a humungus boot to compete with NHC.
  • They will for sure ruin the clean lines of the hatch and end up looking like a giant vacuum cleaner (NHC Type1)
  • They will not change the front end for cost reasons.
  • No time to indigenise 1.5 VVt for now with existing projects. Most people will go for diesel anyway. Therefore no 1.5 VVt engine.
  • Engine choices will be existing 1.3, 1.6 from Baleno and the 1.3 JTD.
  • They desperately need this car to compete with Indigo, Fiesta, NHC and NHA (accent).

Even I have seen a news in one of the top five auto magazines that Maruti is planning to launch Sedan version of Swift with changing wheel base and installing 1.4/1.6 engine. Dont know exactly that it will replace Esteem or not but I have gone through such news.
