This is a sign of a car about to be discontinued.
Palio MJD strategy.

@ nitrous,
I totally agree with you that as the car price is slashed by 1L, it may be discontinued by GM or GM may also be launching facelifted version of Optra Magnum as the sale figures of this particular car looks to be quiet good.

How about bringing the Cruze hatch with the 2.0L diesel motor? If they are able to price it at <10L OTR they would be giving the customers a modern stylish car (albeit with an old but powerful engine). Looking at how the premium hatches are flying off the shelf, this might be a good experiment for GM?

While most may be writing Optra's obituary, I consider it a rebirth provided GM handles it well. If GM brings the price down to Fiesta/Linea/Verna/Vento level, GM will have set a cat among the pigeons. Magnum is a size up on these cars and in performance department, it will leave them standing. But 1 lakh lowering is not enough. Some more price cut and it will be in business.

GM should refrain from killing the car and learn from Maruti which seldom kills any car.

Something which I noticed in the Optra Magnum advertisment : In last month's ad it was mentioned "Offer till 30th Sep" ; But now its "Prices valid till Stocks Last" !
I think it clearly shows GM is phasing out this model soon and clearing up its inventory ! Would it still be a good buy ?

This is the reason one must not buy chevrolets, their strategy is bad for old customers.Because of this polict hyundai, ford and chevrolet never command apremium but look at toyota and honda, whatever happens they never reduce prices so the customers are regained and they are called premium.

Also the price shown is for the LS version, which does not have most of the 'loaded' fetures. The LT which is fully loaded costs 10.48 on road in Trivandrum.

It would be worth buying if the on road price is comparable to the Fiesta/Linea etc.

I still think that a at this price optra 2.0 tdci is a better purchase than a verna or fiesta or even better than linea.

as if after 5 years and 1L of running any of the above mentioned cars will give a good resale

I would still drop it for its ageing design and outdated interiors. Upon bargain, once could get a further slash of 50k to 1L easily.Remember the price cuts for Previous Gen Laura when it was discontinues.

Vento has done the maximum damage for this car if not the stylish Cruze under the same roof.

Optra Magnum Diesel is a very good car, which is ignored by many. and in this price its a great deal. My Magnum has clocked almost 50k now and still feels like a new, ownership experience so far is great.

I've learnt one lesson in the last 10 years: DON'T BUY A SUNSET MODEL
Fiat Petra (rebadges Siena at rock-bottom prices)
Hyundai Accent Executive
Daewoo Nubira
Fiat Uno S (Diesel)

Parts will always be an issue, and will hurt the ownership experience.
