Agree, But as long as they sell 7000+ per month, i dont think Hyundai need to worry. Obviously, For some reason, people think, it is worth it.

There is a rumor on 1.0 Kappa engine with facelift according to Motoroids. This might be a speculation considering that 1.1 is there are lower end. Dont know what is the need for new petrol engine.

wow - 3 engine offerings for a single model. Has this ever happened in car industry (excluding petrol/diesel combinations)?

1.0 Kappa (engine specs please), 1.1 iRDE (67ps) & 1.2 Kappa (80ps). WoW. is hyundai trying to target Spark? or Alto 1000cc? I am afraid yes! Hyundai if they release Kappa 1.0 would be price it 10-15k more than the Alto 1000cc!

Guys, given a choise between i10 1.0 kappa Vs Alto K10b? what would you pick?

I too have the same feeling MutantX. I think Hyundai is targeting Alto.
Alto at around 20K and i10 at around 12K currently, me thinks Hyundai wants to close the gap.

To choose between i10 1.0 kappa and alto K10B, i would definitely go for the kappa since K10B is a three pot and hence noisier engine(Correct me if i am wrong, K10B is three cylinder right?). And knowing Kappa, it will definitely be refined. I expect Hyundai to tune it in the same lines as the eRLX/iRDE for good city driving and mileage.

But question is 1.0 would definitely run out of breath in the highways. How would Hyundai cope with that?? Highway performance at least should not be dismal!

yea k10b is a 3 potter. yes, kappa 1.0 would be refined and the gear ratio & torque@particular gear would be adjusted to give iRDE like performance within the city. Highway performance would be alright, there are no complaints about iRDE in highway hence kappa 1.0 would be a perfect blend of city & highway driving

If they do bring the 1.0 Kappa, they will most likely pull the plug on 1.1irde. and maybe plonk the 1.0 kappa in santro too. Does not make sense to have 3 petrol engines on same model.

Kappa 1.0 should be producing around 65bhp I guess. Given that low end torque is not exactly Kappa's strength points, the iRDE would serve its purpose better. And given that the i10 weighs ~900kgs, wouldn't help either.

My guess is the 1.0 kappa too would be 3 pot.
That seems to be trend today..for mileage's sake

If kappa 1.0 is launched with the i10, then it shouldnt be just a facelift. It should be all new i10 with a 1.0 kappa engine haha just like how they did the 1.2 Kappa after the iRDE.

Well, with the Alto K10B, if at all i10 comes with a 1.0 Kappa, it will have its task cut out!

So, everything would boil down to pricing.

Where i10 would score over k10 will be in better rear & boot space; and definitely on better interior quality.

IMO, a family man who wishes to travel with his brood in relative comfort would still go for i10 over k10.
