i've been seeing the ad for the HINDU -AUTO EXPO 2010 which says Rs.50/- entry ticket:uncontrol!!! strange but most of the 15 vintage cars listed on display have been doing the rounds in every tiny, small, big event in the city and there was no 'entry fee' or anything of that sort.
the other new cars can anyway be seen in the showrooms, maybe with a test drive thrown in, so where's the logic behind the Rs.50/ entry fee?! do people actually fall for such shows and cough up the money?

I really dont see anything terribly wrong with a Rs 50/- entry fee.

Its not a huge amount, and in some cases for these events it helps filter out the "timepass" crowd who will only walk in and stand around if its free. For example, after a few over-capacity events, people wanted speedrun to charge an entry fee to keep the time-passers out and have the event focus on the real enthusiasts.

You gotta check out these crap shows in Chennai to understand what sterlingjames is talking about.

IIRC these shows will just have a handful of cars (Am not talking about the vintage) which you can check it out for free in any showroom (Heck, you can have those cars at your doorstep for a TD). There will be some accessories stalls. That's about it.

Couple of months back, a friend of mine was fooled by the, "London Expo" held opp to Pachayapa's college which was advertised with the London Bridge photo. He paid Rs.75/- only to see Vasanth&Co stall with a small replica of the London Bridgerl:

An organiser is entitled to charge admission fees from visitors, but at the end of the day its the amount of crowd based on what all good cars are there, that makes a show success or failure. And if a show is not good, believe me there won't be much crowd on the 2nd half itself as word does travel fast.

I'm really getting no interest with these auto shows these days. I stopped wasting my time with TV, Zigwheels, auto magazines. I only have TBhp to browse. One stop place for all updates from Nano to Lambo. It's even free!!! what do I need more?

But which auto show are you talking about? There're 2 of them I see
1. India Tyre Expo & Auto Comp 2010 - 5 Nov 2010 To 7 Nov 2010
2. Auto Serve 2010 - 19 Nov 2010 To 21 Nov 2010

Rehaan, if you're still not convinced on Kiku's words, check out the response of Nitrous on one of the threads on Chennai's auto expo.

Is there a Porsche Carrera GT on display?

I heard from my friends that a Carrera GT and EVO X would be on display. (Evo would most likely be the one from Adyar showroom).

you can also check out more Porsches in the Porsche showroom on mount road, and with no crowds jostling you, likewise for the EVO x!

I went to the show and there is a 911 Carrera 4S on display. Not the Carrera GT. Also present were BMW Z4 sDrive35i, F10 525d, CLS350CDi, SLK, E200 CGI, Evolution X, Nissan Micra, Teana, Polo Cup car, Chevrolets, Fords, Mahindras, Maruti Suzukis and the entire VW lineup except Touareg, Phaeton and Beetle. Add a dozen vintage cars from the Ford Mustang to Jaguar S-Type and more.

This link has some good pictures.

And the Toyota Prius. I asked the suzuki guys why the kizashi is not there. They had no clue about what i was talking about. One guy even asked me to check the Toyota stall on the other side. :uncontrol

I cant believe people are cribbing about 50 bucks. And here I am willing to pay 100GBP for an upcoming show....

I guess it is not about the Rs. 50/- , but more to do with the content/quality of the show itself :).

Till when is this show on? Or is it over already??

I guess the show is already over & it was open on last Saturday (25) & Sunday (26)

kiku007, aargee, sterlingjames and others : I see what you're saying about the dismal quality / content of some shows. However, i still don't think theres anything wrong with a Rs 50 entry fee.

If its the quality of show thats the problem, then i guess comments should be regarding improving that, rather than trying to equate it with the entry fee.
After all, even if disappointing shows had a Rs. 20 entry fee, it wouldn't make them any more enjoyable right?

Though from the looks of this one it seems alright. AC + A few nice cars, along with a decent spread of regular ones.

Its also a chicken and the egg situation isn't it. If this show is successful, then maybe next year they will get more / better cars, and so on.

Interesting llooking entrance... reminds me of a funny picture of the gynecologists convention entrance :D

I got invitation from Mahindra dealer and walked in FREE!

No objection in having Rs:50 as fee, but I think a publicity effort should be free so that they get maximum publicity. Now-a-days people want to earn through whatever means possible. May be I am wrong, but this is how I felt.

Attaching some Photos from the event. All cars are of their respective owners and I am just posting it on team-bhp for everyone to see. Sorry about poor quality, I only had my cellphone to click pictures.
