NEW SWIFT GTI....... Can it come to India?

Hi BHPians,

This is my first post on the site, though have been visitin it gor a long time now. M studyin in London at the moment and have been here for 3 years now.

I recently saw this spy pic of Suzuki Swift GTI....

I think it is aimed for the European markets and not for India. After looking at the failure of limited edition 2-door Zen few years back, I dont think we Indians appreciate anything but 4 doors.

The links to the pics are...

What is that car in the background of the 3rd pic??? Looks a bit like Alfa Romeo but it doesnt make sense.

The swift 2 door will definitely be a success, unlike the Zen. Trust me.

I 2nd that, the market these days is very different from what it used to be. The Swift GTI looks really hot too, and would be fast too

Maybe they could plonk in the baleno engine into the SWIFT and sell it as a 2 door for 5L.
But Maruti being Maruti, i doubt they will do that.

welcome redcandle..

short answer - No..
we prolly wont see this car in India (anytime soon)
2 door versions are nice and sporty but dont make much sense here...
except if the family already has a coupla cars and its just a personal car.

and yes the car behind does look like a Alfa.

the Zen 2 door didnt have the appeal needed in 2 door car! but the swift has great appeal as a 2 door version! n well, nowa days with the growing number of single families, it will be a hit!

Thanx everyone for replying to my first post, it has definately motivated me to post new information that i find in future.

I agree with Abhay that GTIs might be nice and sporty but will not really work in India as this segment's market is relatively smaller here.

Another issue to be kept in mind is the price!!! The Swift GTI will be substantially more expensive than other four door versions. And yet again, the market for these products in India is still being seeded.

Though Maruti has now stepped up the productions for Swift and the waiting period in most regions has dropped remarkably, they being typical Maruti, will not think of a new model for a while. I think it is more likely that a SWIFT SEDAN will be launched in India in the next 2-3 years (although i hate that rear of the sedan version in an ealrier post... http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ift-sedan.html) than a GTI.

And My dilemma again...... WHAT IS THE CAR IN BACKGROUND OF 3rd PICTURE???

Keep your views coming in..

Thanx

i dont think swift gti will be here but there are chances of maruti launching swift with the yummy 1.6 powertrain from baleno, and it would make a awesome car.
