Nissan India starts Micra exports

Highpoints:

- The first major consignment of 3,866 cars left Ennore Port to cater to the demands of the European market.

- Made-in-India Micra to be exported to more than 100 countries in the European, Middle East and African regions.

- Chennai becomes the strategic hub for both domestic and exports in Nissan’s global growth strategy.

- Nissan aims to export over 110,000 units in FY 2010-11

In 2008, Nissan had signed an MoU with Ennore Port Ltd. (EPL) to export its vehicles to various countries. Ennore Port is providing a special berth space of 140,000 m2 for parking vehicles and will give Nissan priority to use the newly developed marine facilities.

GTO - Ive seen you complaining about the panel gaps on the Micra. Do you think they look any better on the export versions?

And there seems to be a panoramic roof on one of the cars, or is that just a normal sunroof?

I love that India's becoming a bigger and bigger manufacturing and export hub.

Government should do everything possible to encourage more and more foreign players to invest capital in India and not China. Granted it's very difficult to compete with China with the way they peg their currency, but every little bit that helps our growth is a good thing.

That said, I wonder if the how big the difference in quality between the cars sold in India, and the ones sold in Europe is?

The export Micra's are supercharged 1.2's. Wish we get that here...

Some more info :

The first major shipment of 3866 cars to Europe was flagged off from Ennore Port.

The consignment was shipped in a Pure Car Carrier Vessel from Nissan Motor Car Carrier, a privately owned shipping company owned by Nissan, Mitsui O.S.K Lines and Hoegh.

Earlier, in April this year, Nissan successfully tested out the first trial consignment of six cars to Barcelona from its Oragadam Plant to Ennore Port.

Whats the difference between normal sunroof and the panaoramic sun roofs?

I hope India becomes the manufacturing hub for more automobile makers - we will get cars at better rates. Still not sure why cant they give export quality in India specific cars !

The Micra only makes do with a glass roof that extends up to the B-pillars.
