I believe the S60 is launched here with a twin turbo set up with a killer price. That, if true would surely dent the BMW 3 and E Class market. Mind you, "Killer Price" being the key word. Nothing less than that will set the Volvo sales up. We all have seen how Nissan has not managed to even nudge the market it was meant to rock, being priced very very competitively.

Very handsome looking car, but I guess they did not manage to price it to their advantage. 39.5 lakhs is pretty closer to the older brother XC90.

As GTO mentioned, a buyer who is willing to pay this much could definitely look for a BMW Q5, or a cheaper BMW X1. And with the new X3 coming around, its going to be hard for XC. The new X3 is nothing like the outgoing model. It really have the looks to kill competition!

Thanks for the detailed pics. The interior looks fantastic, that colour combo makes it look rich.Like the centre console layout.
This car is good value for its price.Good option for someone needing a bigger car at the price of a 5 series. Not too mention a good engine with offroading capabilities.

I don't see X1 or even X3 matching this one in terms of equipment and safety features. 40L is indeed a very good price for this fully loaded CBU.

I'm just curious as to how this works. Firstly, can it be switched off or does it apply only above a certain speed? Otherwise, I can just imagine the vehicle refusing to move forward while driving in BB Dadar because there are simply too many pedestrians swarming all around.

I agree.. And I'm glad that at least ONE company is bringing at least SOMEWHAT decent value to the table in India. Badge snobbery aside, the other brands would do well to rethink their even-more-ridiculous-than-everywhere-else pricing in the Indian market. I'm of course more interested in seeing what they price the S60 at.

I feel that Volvo is kidding itself by the current pricing of XC60. Sure it might have all the bells & whistles ( and with added taxation being a CBU) , but brand value (read brand snobbery ) being what it is in India, people would still want a BMW / Merc/ Audi/ Land Rover at the 35 Lakhs + range.

Short answer is ,if the manufacturer wants to command premium pricing, has to come with the 'known' premium badge . Just saying that it's a CBU is not going to cut any ice with the customer anymore.

At a different price point, consider the Nissan X Trail at @ 22-24 Lakhs ,inspite being a very capable candidate still languishes at very low numbers in sales. Should the X Trail be at @ 16-18 Lakhs, this would be a killer .

S 60 at just below 3 Series pricing ,now that would be serious.

Lets not forget that, for the individual buyer, the registration & taxes for CBUs are much higher than for CKDs. With direct imports, it's certainly not about the ex-showroom price alone. We have to consider the on-road price.

Example : The ex-showroom price of a CKD BMW 525d is higher than that for the CBU Volvo XC60. However, the onroad price for the Bimmer is lower by about 3 - 4 lakhs.

Optional Features

- Collision Warning with Auto Brake alerts the driver : Collision Warning with Auto Brake alerts the driver if the distance to a vehicle ahead suddenly decreases. This system gives the driver a fair chance to avoid a collision

- Adaptive Cruise Control also in slow queues : In the field of driving comfort, there are features such as the optional Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which automatically maintains a set gap to the vehicle in front

Does that mean you just slot into 'D' in stop and go traffic and the car will take care of itself? I mean, since its an automatic, it would start moving as you take your foot off brakes and also auto brake if the next car is too close. Hence the driver just needs to steer.
If it does work this way, it will be a bliss in the Mumbai traffic.
