By the way which variant did they test drive ? 1.4 D or 1.6 D ?
The test-drive vehicle was 1.6 D. But dont know which variant of petrol was tested.

Also, looks-wise, the car seemed a bit smaller in length compared to old verna. Not sure if its an illusion coz of the Fluid Design

Are you sure the current Verna does not have turbo-lag? I had a different experience when I TD'd a diesel Verna: it did have a lag till around 2000 rpm on the tacho. After that, the car almost took off like an aircraft, and I almost slammed into an auto-rickshaw in front of me---the very same one that I wanted to beat while starting from a green light, but could not for the first 5 seconds due to the lag.

The i20 also suffers from this turbo lag.

It is sad that Hyundai is unable to address issues with handling that appear to be intrinsic to most of its cars, including the D segment Sonata.

Looks like it will handle our roads just fine!

Ashutosh, I guess you were kidding because that's surely not the kind of "handling" that's being discussed here

Re: 2011 Hyundai Verna (RB) Edit: Now spotted testing in India

Its amazing. One side is Ford, who had a press conference, but no details.
Then we have Hyundai, no press conferences (please let I have missed something), but folks have access to vehicle and details!

A general question on Verna Handling:

Does the much talked about "bad" Verna Handling is all at speeds > 100Kmph or, even at 70-100 but at corners?
Can someone clarify?

It is not as horrible as it looks but yes.
Even in 60 if you do a sudden lane change there will be quite a body roll. If you do changes like left-right-left (to avoid potholes which are plenty) it can scare the hell out you. Happened to me 1 time. The car kept wobbling for the next 2-3 sec.
Otherwise for a sane driver and lane driver there is little to worry.

I was watching the car and bike show on NDTV and according to that show the car is not good for highways i.e. not good handling beyond high speeds 100 +. They said the car is well suited for city purposes and not the highways. Now if this is true then this is really a shocker.

The link that you have posted is about the NFS and not the Verna. Wanna check and post the right video? I am also waiting for the video review!

The same program also features Verna.
It is in the later half of the program.

Even I saw that they mentioned, its not good for highways due to band handling. They also talked about soft suspensions. But loads of gadgets were mentioned and a superb interior.

Re: 2011 Hyundai Verna (RB) Edit: Now spotted testing in India

Hyundai appear to have put a lot of effort in getting this car right, so why leave one of the most persistent complaints about the old verna for bad handling unaddressed in an extremely competitive marketplace that will definitely hold the car back.

Doesn't Hyundai have engineers and experts in house to sort this out. Difficult to understand the handling criticism in a brand new model. The car looks like it can handle well, a pity if its otherwise. The new Fiesta is supposed to be a cracker in terms of handling.
