I believe FIAT will do much better in India as a supplier of engines to other manufacturers tan as a car producer.
exactly . you answered the original question yourself wrt to survival . So MSIL doesn't make any changes to the fortune of FIAPL .They can source technology from PSA etc but will those engines be as fuel efficient as current one is the question they need to have answer before doing that. As for turning of TAP off goes, can't comment as i don;t know the legalities in the deal.

As for second point goes, FIAT is already selling engines and earning from it. don;t know what made you that they should stay away from selling cars .

OT:Not sure why people making so many nioses for a company who can't even make Diesel engines on their own and ride on borrowed fortune.

IMO the very 1st thing FIPL should do if they can't operate different service center, they should properly train TATA Motor guys on Fiat cars, the different engineering and specification. The same person who works on indicab and then tries his hands on Linea will find it very difficult to manage without proper training.

I was dreaming of Brand Stores and some new models from FIAT. But...

Fiat India won’t launch any new car model till 2013-14, says CEO

For me it makes sense. They are still struggling to sell and what they need now is a image makeover. Launching new models will further incur more loss for them with the current state of sale.

I personally don't think having separate service centres and dealerships for FIAT will be a great decision financially, judging by the number of FIATs on the road and the dwindling sales. Having separate teams at the same Service Centre is a better idea.

I would rather have sub-par service for my car at a Tata-Fiat Service Centre than have a barely-there FIAT exclusive service network where ASC owners are always on the verge of closure due to lack of profits.

That does not mean Fiat should do nothing to improve its after sales service or even its sales.

Any insiders of Fiat here who can confirm whether 1.6MJD Linea will be coming along this Diwali?

Here's a bit of extract from the interview

"Kapoor said that the company's range of cars had a lot of potential which the company so far has not been able to exploit. “We would look to refresh the look of these cars so that the newness comes out and of course a new product has to come,” he said."

This news floated last year, and actually there were 3 Linea 1.6 doing road tests, and one in Bangalore, but then something changed and no information was available, I saw the post you mentioned, but he too doesn't have a solid news; You can try your luck with any dealer that you are interested in booking a Linea and only if that is 1.6, else you will go to soem other brand, check what they say about it.

These dealer folks are really tight lipped and most of the times do not know anything about new releases. Unless somebody has inside information, its very difficult to know.

I am a bit positive on this news by aks_karthik because he has interacted with a hell lot of Fiat folks for his Linea from day 1 and somebody there would have given his this info.

But ya there is no end to my confusion of waiting or not.

Cheers
