Good work. Interesting to note that only Maruti has all models showing a + over sept. A fantastic performance by maruti, Hyundai, Tata. Honda seems to be sliding despite the City being the leader.

Yes, Optra in China is a real volume player. Also it is under the Buick brand and not Chevrolet as in India

hyundai i10 records 15k units, much more than the swift & ritz, great.

scorpio sold 4513 units, just 3 units less than the innova, again commendable considering quite a big share of innovas are taxis.

santa fe has already sold 74 units!

fortuner sold almost 10 times as that of captiva, bad!

This is primary sales as with Aria, a new model's sales can only be analysed after say 6m to 1 year when it has stabilized. Many models that do well initially fail in the long term and some which don't do as well succeed , like Wagon R which initially did not enthuse many is today No 2 car in the country.

i10 is in a segment lower than that of Swift. Further, i10 has a smaller 1.1L engine that costs 3.5L ex-showroom, while Swift 1.2L base variant is priced at 4.2L ex-showroom.

Hyundai would have expected that i10 may become the second largest selling car in India this month with the new model launch and robust sales followed, but Wagon-R outperformed i10 once again.

Total Alto sales almost equal to the total sales of the second largest manufacturer in India!

i20 numbers are good. The lower price-spec'ed Era is reaping the numbers.

DZire, with its drawbacks like worst boot integration (IMO), selling 9000 numbers! This car's 'Family look' matters here.

SX4 having a Petrol engine outsells Verna that has a Diesel engine. Good going.

Aria 344 units. Sure a bad start. Rs. 3 Lakhs high premium price across all variants of Aria to blame for the poor start. Not sure howmany of 344 arias are actual dealer dispatches and how many are real sold to customers! TATA made very big mistake for a reasonable quality product with worst pricing!

So the top ten stands as follows :

Alto : 32612
WagonR : 16952
i10 : 15103
Swift : 12948
Indica : 9732
Dzire : 9644
Omni : 8564
Santro : 8420
Indigo : 8292
Bolero : 7987

Here are some of my observations :

1. Exceptional nos. for Alto.I guess majority of sells are of K10.

2. The extension of the Scheme to the month of October , showed positive results for Beat

3 . Bolero still the king of UV's

4. Not astonishing nos. , but still , better results for Fabia after price cut.

5. We may see i20 settling down 7000 - 8000 mark in future.

6. Almost 17000 , best ever figures for Wagon R.

7. Dzire wins the entry level battle , for this month . 9644 are great nos. , sheer profit for Maruti.

8. Disappointing figures for Nano. On one hand Tata is targeting 20000 cars per month in future , on other hand they are unable to sell even 1/3rd nos. compared to Indica. What's going wrong?

9. Even the launch of T-jet couldn't up the sales of Linea.

10. Good nos. for Tavera , considering it's not on sale in Big cities.

Thanks bblost for this. Polo in negative. That doesn't seem to be good for them. In B'lore I thought Polo had more sales than Figo.

Whom do Swft and Dzire compete with? No one seems to have mentioned anything about fantastic figures of Swift? May be business as usual for the swift

i20 is in marginal minus. New Verna transform seems to have some buyers, maybe diesel, still.
Last month in almost all print media, we could see Honda advertisement blitzkrieg. Seems to have had a negative effect even after giving Re.1/ insurance. Vento will seriously make Honda think. But are the 3500

My prediction for the month of December:
City: 5000+
Vento: 3500+
Linea: 1500+
SX4/Fiesta: 1200+
Beg to differ here Sir:-
ANHC: 4000-4300
Vento: 2000-2500 (just because of the shoddy treatment meted out to customers by VW guys. Hope they learn the mistake made and still continuing to make by Honda. Honda now seems to have learned something from Maruti and Hyundai on customer service. )
SX4: 2200-2500 (Wishful thinking, maybe we should come back next month and have a look)
Verna:2000 (Petrol + diesel)
Linea: 400, if they are extremely lucky. Even if they come with diesel, not much is happen for them. They need to divorce (or bring into effect they had announced about divorce from Tata) Tata ASAP

Fiesta:~800 My God, who is buying this? It's high time Ford throw this out of the window and come out with something different. So yucky to see itself.

November is Diwali month and we might just get to see some record-shattering sales figures on Dec 1

You are clubbing Dzire,Indigo,City,Manza,SX4,Logan etc with Superb,Jetta,Accord Cruze etc.

I am just wondering how the latter owners feel on being clubbed with the other cars mentioned. Cruze and Manz, oopsey

I believe that a cheaper version of Santro with the same design should compete well with Alto - it is more spacious and quite reliable too. Just plonk in a 3 pot version of the 1.1 iRDE - with not a big impact to torque and it should get there.
Lower development cost too.

Are these really sales numbers or numbers for deliveries made in October ?

The booking window was closed for months, despite that Tata released Nano numbers for months along with those of Indica Indigo Safari Sumo etc. So obviously those were of Deliveries only.

We already know why deliveries of Nano were down substantially for previous month compared to month before that. The reason why deliveries are down because OEM are taking time to shift from Pantnagar to Anand and this is causing shortage of certain inputs require for manufacturing of Nano's engines.

source: The Hindu Business Line : Nano production to be ramped up soon

Quote:
Nano production to be ramped up soon. Entire production to be shifted to Sanand.
Production of Nano cars will return to the levels of 8,000-9,000 in two-three months as Tata Motors is ramping up production at the dedicated manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat.

Mr R. Ramakrishnan, Vice-President, Passenger Car Business Unit, Tata Motors, said that Nano production went down in September because the company had stopped making the car at the interim facility a the Pantnagar plant and shifted production entirely to Sanand.

The Sanand plant has the capacity to roll out 20,000 units a month. However, the current monthly production hovers around 5,000 units.

The despatch of Nanos increased progressively from 3,525 in May to 7,704 in June and to 9,000 in July and 8,103 units in August. This is mainly because the company started making Nanos at Sanand in June, besides continuing production at Pantngar. The company was making around 3,500 units in Pantnagar and the rest from Sanand plant.

Mr Ramakrishnan said that the whole supply chain is to be fully in place before ramping up production. Some of the component suppliers at the vendor park attached to the Sanand plant are yet to be fully operational. There are 41 component makers at the vendor park.

About the incidents of Nano catching fire, he said that the incidents were not due to design flaws. He said the company is working on diesel, electric and CNG versions.

More Ace capacity

Having stopped making Nano at its light commercial vehicle plant in Pantnagar, Tata Motors has freed up capacity to make many more units of sub-one tonne light truck Ace. The company had earlier planned to increase the production of Ace at Pantnagar to 2.75 lakh units a year from 2.25 lakh.

Do German, Japanese, Korean,American heck even Chinese have such attitude towards things manufactured, developed in their country by their own countrymen ?

Forget Nano, us Indians may soon become endangered species with such attitude /rant

Sure we would. But I trust Kardeep would not have said in that sense..

Nano deserves much more success than this indeed..
