BORING, to say the least. What is an i10, i20 and the worst of all the Toyota PRIUS doing in a performance show. It looks more like a Marketing and PR show.

It is the next best after the Auto Expo. I expected to see more stalls from aftermarket performance dealers. Where is Petes and similar guys? There aren't any modified Esteems, Citys etc (atleast from the pictures and apart from the ones shown by Pioneer)

Apologies to all those who went to the meet today. A bad turn of health re-routed me to the doc instead of the show. Just got back & it seems that i wont be going to the show at all. Was really looking forward to the show & meeting up with BHPians.
Hope you all met up & wish you all a great time.
Once again, apologies & hope to see you all at the next meet.
Regards.

Went to the expo today. Came back terribly disappointed. there was nothing special at the show & almost all the cars were the usual ones we see on the road. the audi R8, Porsche & ferrari has been seen many times & almost all the cars except mahindra, BMW & merc had nothing exciting to show.

Mahindra Thar Adventure is fabulous (Kudos to Behram sir), BMW Z4 with awesome & the AMG stall was the best with the oh-so-gorgeous SLS with its gull wing doors open!

I sat in the Santa Fe & from the front seats, it was amazing but the rear seat was pathetic, it sorely lacked under thigh support & my knees were actually pointing the roof.

Ramie's stall was also one of the better parts of the show with his amazing swift & lancer on display. I loved the swift! It has 4 amps, 4 LCDs & 2 subs! I liked the unique position of LCDs on the doors!

Mahindra off road track was a joke! Even a Nano or a normal sedan could be driven around the track easily.

Dear Raj - thank you for your comment on Thar. All credit goes to my colleague Jagjyot Singh "Jaggi" Nanda who has executed the customization on Thar.

Dear Prithvi - to answer your question, I can only say - "it will bring a big smile on your face very soon". Watch this space. .

I just loved the gullwing door Mercedes. But as I am a die hard BMW fan, I would rather buy the Z4. .

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Sir, Both the Thar as well as the Adventure looks awesome & would have amazing street presence. I was amazed to see the attention to detail on both. I have already started fantasizing an Adventure for myself in white or Green!

Autocar performance 2010

Guys we had been there yesterday afternoon. But like everyone has already voiced out, it was an overall disappointment.

Crowd pullers:

1) JBL stand -Superbikes, Pimped Nano and one of the evil twins (swift), Sam's Superb, Beemer and the CRV. This was the grand entry.

2) AMG stand - SLS being the star of the show.

3) BMW stand - the new 7 & 5 series, Z4, X5.

4) Jaguar stand - XKR in metallic blue (WOW) a cheeta in sheeps clothing

5) Skoda stand - Yeti and the new fabia

6) Mitsubishi stand - EVO x

7) Mahindra stand - THAR . Boy -o-Boy this is the ultimate 4x4 that one would like to have. It is surely in my wishlist. Waiting for the pricing.

8) Pioneer stall - now here you guys need to see whats in store in their demo room. No prizes for any guesses . It is the P99rs with compos, sub and amp's. It is a dream setup.

9) Kiirus stall- Issigonis and self were here for sometime understanding what they actually do. Abhishek who is the owner explained the concept and what we could expect from the remap. They have done a couple of cars right from a small Figo to a mighty Scorpio. He claimed to have done remaps on supercars like a ferrari in Bangalore. I will connect with this guy after the event.

10) Soundstream and Powerbass stall: Ramiee paaji you have done a superb job. I personally know the effort put by this guy and his team and guys a huge hand of applause

Disappointments:

1) Super car stall: They could have taken a better space to position these beauties and better lighting was needed.

2) Fiat & Ford stalls : Fiat stall had only the Punto and Linea T-Jet on display. they could have decorated the stall and make it more interactive. Ford stall had only the new ENDY. They could have the Fiesta S and the FIGO.

3) Honda stall : It looked so boring inspite of they displaying the entire range. Not much of guys to assist and the Jazz sports and Accord V6 could have grabbed a lot more attention if they had planned for a better design.

4) Tata stall: They had a very small display area and despite having the new ARIA on display it didnt look that impressive. I feel they should have taken a bigger area for attracting a bigger audience and made it more lively.

I am attaching a few snaps that I took

I had visited the autocar performance show 2009 last year and though there were some really good stuff on display ranging from the cars to the other performance parts stalls, the show was really dull and boring and very very sad. It lacked the ICE stalls which was the primary reason why I was interesting in visiting the show as I was hunting to ICE my car at that time and more over the show seemed really lifeless. The biggest put off was me paying Rs.100/ to see the show filled 80% with regular cars I see everyday. It was more like all the manufacturers came together to display their products available in the market which had no relation what-so-ever with performance!
This year however I see the performance parts manufacturers such as cosworth, remus, magnaflow, etc which were present last year missing (or am I missing something?) as well as most of the manufacturers again displaying their new products under 1 roof. So what is new?? and what is different?? The SLS AMG, E63 AMG, and EVO?? Is that it?? There could be so much more brought down here to tease the Indian car enthusiasts.

My question here is that why exactly am I even paying entrance fees to enter this show which actually is just a marketing stunt by various manufacturers to boost their product sales? Why do I pay to see more than 80% cars which are being sold in the market today and seen on our streets daily??

You may be wondering that I am crying for a Rs.100 bill but no! I remember some four years ago at Nehru centre, worli there was an exhibition of cars. Not only was the entrance free but it also had a display range that we were not used to seeing daily and had some really neat performance stalls and also a rally-bred Ford Focus simulator (where you actually sit in a rally spec ford focus, steer the sporty steering and press the actual pedals of that car with a flat screen on the hood). Now that was some show! I guess that was sponsored by castrol IIRC.

Thanks a lot guys for the beautiful pics ! But except for few of the manufacturers, this is not so entertaining ! And looks like the JBL stalls stole the entire lime light - obviously the best stalls as I could make out thru the pics !
