Nice sid, well done,

Waiting for the next edition, so does it mean that it's (the safari dream) all come to an end? Is there a way ahead? Awaiting the jump forward to the last post.

CHAPTER 4.
FAST AND HOW.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-008.jpg

Ever seen those hapless people in those zip zap zoom hypercarriages called rollercoasters? Obviously, its not for the faint hearted, claims are made. Imagine travelling in those insane 200 plus kmph speeds. But yes, its really not for the faint hearted. Then why on earth people shout and scream when they travel on these objects called hell on wheels?

Well, !xobile is unlike any other. He is a quiet pussycat. He is a silent spectator which enjoys his life to the fullest. Shouting and screaming is a waste of energy and a barbaadi to your vocal chord. Unfortunately, our country needs new talented singers and its better to preserve that vocal cords for that nautankibaaz singing reality shows where only "basant-towelwala-marriages-basanti" thingies happen and we just become mere entertainers. Pity....

Don't believe it? Then after watching this, you may.

Well folks, !xobile is also a great singer and dances to tunes made by him.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-exiengine.jpg

The harmonica of that 2092 cc 16V DOHC gasoline motor producing 135 horses of pure Indian muscle. Welcome aboard the new Tata Safari petrol.
Manufactured under the helm of a new rejuvenated Tata Motors label.
An all new version of G76 gearbox with dual cone synchronizers for hot-knife-cutting-through-butter shifts.

Available exclusively in silver and black, this truck is for those who care a damn about naysayers that are obsessed with only one thing, "gaddi di average kinni hai". Come on, zindagi mein avarage ke alava bhi bahut kuch hai....that's why this vehicle exclusively finds its way into our contry's PM security convoy. available in very limited quantities and made to order, this step marks a new daring direction for tata motors as this motor is its first complete in house developed all aluminum 16V DOHC gasoline and it is surprisingly refined and smooth for a first timer. A little known but interesting fact remains that this motor was also used in a prototype of a mid engines working prototype of a "formula tata" car which was also shown to Narain Karteikyen.

But that engine completely transformed the safari from a slowcoach to a powerhouse. Compared to the 90HP diesel, it took 11 seconds less to get to complete 0-100 (16 odd as compared to 27 odd) and overtaking was now child's play. Government's policies and rumour that price of diesel will be equal to that of petrol also forced tata to offer safari as a petrol variant. Unlike the scorpio which sourced its engine from Renault, Tata's indigenous engineering skills was proven again as the safari petrol was the winner of the "most improved car of the year" award at the autocar India auto awards.

Along with that, the diesel versions were also cosmetically upgraded with a new blaupunkt "palm beach" music system and a silver finish console, and improved plastic quality. Some new shades with weird names were also added. Heard of a colour called "metallic 2 PM blue"?
Maybe its about monday afternoon blues.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-100.jpg

!Xobile also beleives in opposite. "Slow and steady wins the race"? Gimme a break. Time to break away from the heard.
There are people who say "we are going to be there", but !xobile has already proclaimed, "aren't we here already"? Yes, we are here. In this era of fast paced life, there is no room for slowcoaches.

Sadly, figures of 5-7 kmpl hit potential buyers hard and the safari petrol bombed badly in the market. Call it a "blink and you miss me appearance".

Give way for the limited edition part deux

In the end of 2004, to mark the final hurrah of the current generation safari 1.9, another limited edition was released, this time with an onboard entertainment system consisting of a DVD player with dual LCD screens, black leather interiors and a special spare wheel cover. exclusive new pearl white, pearl silver, fiji blue and quartz black shades were offered with contrasting cladding finishes with the tagline "Give way".

2005. Bharat stage three norms are fast approaching. Perhaps time for a rebirth? Well, could be....but wait, isn't it time for a break?

Well, yes, as !xobile is off to IITF tomorrow to roam around and perhaps, find some phat girls and spend some time with them. Maybe its time to re-claim his life?
Well, forget your monday blues and have a good night's sleep.

CHAPTER 5.
RECLAIM YOUR LIFE.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-014.jpg

Past - well now let me tell you about the past
Past is filled with silent joys and broken toys
Laughing girls and teasing boys
Was I ever in love?
I called it love
I mean - it felt like love
There were moments when...
Well, there were moments when...!xobile was in love..
Lost in a jungle of competition...he lost his love..
Love is priceless, it never screams, just grows deeper, it pulls you in, takes you down..

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-010.jpg

April 1, 2005.
Its time to hit back and show who's the boss.
Its time to prove your mettle..
Its time to cut the throat..with a knife.
A sharp response awaits you..
Its time to reclaim your lost love..time to leave your worries behind.
Its time to rise from the ashes..

Time to,
RECLAIM YOUR LIFE.
!Xobile's love is back. Bigger and better than ever.
Welcome aboard the new Tata Safari 3.0 DiCOR.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-iimg_engine_s5e_pakwheelscom.jpg

New, front face with new headlights, grill, front bumper with skid plate.
New sleeker door handles and 16" bolder alloy wheels for that mean, don't-mess-with-me look.
New rear with redesigned taillights and a sleeker new body coloured spare wheel cover.
New VX and VXI (petrol) variants with segment first reverse camera with LCD display on IRVM, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and follow me home headlights to make sure that your imagination has safety backdrop thats reassuring.
New leather upholstery and redesigned centre console with simpler, easy to use layout to improve upon your comfort quotient.
New on board entertainment system with an alpine DVD player and dual LCD screens mounted behind front head restraints to entertain your family and friends while on the move....well now you know that !xobile has a softer side to his personality and cares for others, too.
2,956 cc of brute power at your disposal. 115 ps for better performance. Delphi sourced ECU controlled common rail fuel injection system for lower emissions and improved driveability and refinement. A range of new colours to suit your personality.
Talk about driving wardrobes.
And dressing cars.

Priced from Rs. 6.4 lakh onwards, perhaps, it takes little to reclaim your life. To break away from the herd. To live in a world beyond borders. Time to break free..

Perhaps, the interest re-ignites. And sales zoom. Intense competition be damned, hardcore safari loyalists welcome this refreshing change and lap the truck as soon as it hits the dealerships. but perhaps, !xobile smells something wrong as he picks his piece...somethings really missing. He feels that somethings incomplete...perhaps beauty is no more than just a skin deep without a proper heart.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-016.jpg

The heart is a old and tired 407 DI motor from 1980s. Antiquated push rod operated valve gear with SOHC 2V layout, its from the stone age. Narrow powerband, heavy engine weight and truck like noise has deterred many new potential buyers.
Perhaps Tata's forgotten that this is kalyug. Get it terribly wrong, and you are doomed. Scorpion bites continue to further storm the market and the safari map is headed in the wrong direction...time for a rethink perhaps?

May be its time to go back.
Back to the drawing board......but will !Xobile come out triumphs?
Perhaps its time to take a brunch break and find out later..

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-002.jpg

'Cause its time to make amends.
'Cause, its time to RECLAIM YOUR LIFE.

CHAPTER 6.
TIME TO MAKE AMENDS.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-2010tatasafari.jpg

Mid 2008.
Go out with you?
Why not?
Do I like to dance?
Of course
Take a walk along the beach tonight?
I'd love to
But Don't try to touch me
Cause that will never happen again
Shall we dance?
Of course.
To the tunes of the most powerful, efficient and advanced mill ever plonked into the safari's engine bay.
Perhaps, now, its time to make amends.
Perhaps, its time to show who's the real connoisseur.
Because beyond technology, its art again.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-201.jpg

Presenting the most sophisticated safari ever, the all new Safari 2.2 VTT Dicor.
With an all alloy cylinder head, 16 valves, dual overhead camshafts and a variable nozzle turbocharger.
140 PS of ruthless power and 320 NM of foot stomping torque.
Its the beast within. Calm, quiet and ruthless. Perhaps time for first love?
Did I ever say eternal love?
Worked with world renowned engine specialist AVL of Austria, the real transformation has just started.
Time to get into the king sized cabin. For those who live life kingsize...
Time to start the ignition. 0-100 in 16 seconds. Perhaps more like a road going commercial jet ready to spread its wings. the wings of success.
Hailed as the best safari ever, it gets a positive response from both the press and consumers.
Improved interiors and reworked suspension makes it more polished than ever.
Perfect for !xobile's personality.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-102.jpg

God created men equal. But sometimes, its often said that two is better than one. Talk about dual personality. Monolithic design is boring. Things need to stand out. Perhaps, time for the law of duality?

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-tatasafari4x4vxdicor2.2vtt.jpg

Power dressing just acquired a stylish new model.
Presenting the all new Safari GX.
Available in exclusive dual shades with added features like ABS, parktronic and fabric-leather seat combination, its the perfect fit for !xobile.
A competitive price tag further adds to appeal.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-tatasafaridicor22action.jpg

Fast lane fashion.
You don't just drive it.
But you experience what it feels like
To be noticed.
To be known.
To be recognized.
To be admired.
!xobile doesn't even need to be famous.
A sense of style is enough.
Time to reclaim your lost love?

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-interior_larger.jpg

2010. !xobile is cruising along in the jungle.
To find his lost love.
Ahead, gleaming in chromified beauty, lies the girl of his dreams.
She's back, and more shining than ever.
Not to mention, perhaps she cares for the environment.
For our future generations to breathe clean air.
And to reduce global warming.
The all new 2010 Safari E-4. With a dazzling chrome exterior.
And a funky new black and tan themed leather interior with wood garnish.
Sleek silver finished sump guard and spare wheel cover.
Eight exciting shades of passion. 4 shades of dual personality disorder.
Spoilt for choice?
Perhaps its time to make a fashion statement without uttering a word.
Time to RECLAIM YOUR LIFE.

The Safari chronicles by !xobile. Make your own road.-017.jpg

Perhaps, time to reconcile the journey and discuss whats in store for the future?
Well, folks,!xobile will be back soon with his safari chronicles.
Till then, why not throw away that idiot box and enjoy these promos unlike any other?

I would'nt agree less

The first of the 3L Dicor ads gave a lots of depth and character of something BIG by the Safari, and its actually proved to be great step by TATA's for introducing the CRDi engine. And we all know how it evolved later

For me a 3L beast the Best i could have ever got. Humble and niggle free (touchwood)

Great looks, awesome 2nd row seating comfort, competitively priced. Yet, keeps getting outsold (by a big margin) by the bland-looking Scorpio, which I could never understand. Yes, the Tatas have niggles, but I am sure the Mahindras are not entirely niggle-free. The engines are also more or less similar. So what is it that keeps customers away from this SUV ?

@supremebaleno:

The engine are similar only in bock. The cam system and common rail is completely different.

If you look at the vehicles that are successful in the Indian Market, there things are absolutely important:

1) Reasonable Cost to buy
2) Cheap to maintain
3) Long Lasting durable.

Whether it is right or wrong Mahindra has managed to earn the trust of the general public in this regards. If you look from a Technical & ergonomic perspective, Tata products are much better than Mahindra Products. The Sumo Victa is much better than the Bolero (technically that is not emotionally). The Safari is also a much better product from design standpoint. Tatas have not been able to get the trust of the market with their products and this shows in the resale value of most Tata products. They seem to be making genuine effort to undo the past but such a large ship cannot change on a dime. There will definitely be a lag in market perception.

@pavan:

Do you think the team bhp ownership is the sampling of the general market? Scorpio sells 3 to 1 compared to the Safari. Pavan, you are a bit detached from reality here.

I suggest people to go to a used car dealer and drive a safari that has clocked 1 lakh kilometers and do the same with a Scorpio that has clocked one lakh kms. You will understand my point on durability and long lasting build.

Awesome compilation Sid, loved it!!! You evoked memories of my teenage when i used to go on looong drives with my family in our safari... Bliss! One of the best SUVs we had back then...

@ 4x4addict: +1 to that. Safari sells lesser not because its an inferior product but because of the constant niggles & troubles faced by the owners. cmon, not everybody is a T-BHP member who reads reviews from here!

@ pavan: c'mon saab, there you go again! i suggest you have a look here to know the harsh realities.

I fully agree with you here. Even I wonder why Scorpio sells more. I think the answer lies in initial hiccups Safari had. First gen Safaris were horribly underpowered and had more niggles. Though it has improved by leaps and bounds, the old perception has stayed with many. Add to that a hostile press towards Tata ( may be they don't cough up moolah to press ), word of mouth negative publicity ( which spreads like wildfire in India ).

Five years ago even I would have bought a Scorpio but now I would not even look at it. Safari is ahead of Scorpio in all aspects. Forget the size, engine power and performance. For feature to feature comparison, it beats Scorpio hollow.
