Honda advances launch, to roll out Brio next month

NEW DELHI: Honda will launch its Brio small car in the country next month, six months ahead of schedule and weeks before Japanese rival Toyota rolls out its first small car in India, two people familiar with the company’s plans said.

Honda Brio, a compact car developed for emerging markets such as India, will hit the road on March 17, although deliveries to customer will start only during the monsoon season in August-September, a person in the advertisement industry told ET on condition of anonymity. An auto industry official confirmed it.

Honda Siel Cars India refused to either confirm or deny the information. “We do not want to comment on this at the moment,” a company spokesperson said. Brio was slated for India debut in September this year, but now it will be launched simultaneously with its Thai sibling, popularly called the Eco-car, the advertising industry official said.

Honda Siel is desperate to drive volumes in one of the fastest-growing car markets in the world, particularly after its Jazz hatchback failed to keep up with rivals such as Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo in sales, largely due to its Rs 7 lakh plus price tag that made Jazz the most expensive made-in-India hatchback. Clearly, getting the pricing strategy right for the 1.2 litre Brio will be crucial for Honda.

“It would be imperative for Honda to keep a price strategy right as its aims to drive huge volumes from Brio,” a Mumbai-based auto analyst said. “An attractive price of Rs 4-5 lakh will help Brio to grab customers eyeball and also help it compete with strong competitors like Swift and the i20 hatchbacks,” add the person, who requested not to be named as they are not allowed to comment on individual companies.

While Honda has not indicated any price for Brio, it is expected to be under Rs 5 lakh, much cheaper than the Thai Eco car, which will have a tag of Rs 6 lakh in Thailand.

Now this is something to look forward to. Honda wants to get the first mover advantage and launch the Brio before the Etios Liva.

Guys any one visited Honda India site off late. They have already listed Honda Brio Prototype in the product list in the site. Anyone interested in the car can fill up a form and he will be updated with all the details as and when they are released. Looks like the launch is round the corner.

Good strategy by Honda to simultaneously launch Brio in India & Thailand. An early launch and competitive pricing will definitely help Honda gather a healthy booking pipeline like the Etios.

Brio will certainly impact the sales of i10, Beat, Swift and prospective customers of Etios Liva.

Intresting times ahead in the hatch market.

Side profile resembles Chevy Beat minus those hidden door handles.
Nice scoop as usual Sid.

^^ +1 to that. Side profile does remind you of the Chevy beat. Slightly modified but still very much like the Beat.
Hope this time around Honda does get the pricing right when launching in the Indian market.

Sidindica: As usual, great scoops.

Somehow I find the sloping hatch line very 500-isque, which, I think, is a classic design element. Otherwise the overall look is very unattractive - IMO worse than what the competition has in that range, look-wise

^^ Yeah looks more like a 500. Looks as if Honda designers crossed 4mtrs mark and they suddenly had to cut the rear to bring it below 4mtrs.

Looks worst compared to other bad 'butt' hatches around.

Lot more competition now to Ritz in terms of Looks (or the lack of it). This will easily win the tag of the ugliest looking hatch once launched.

I think its an interesting design and one that will grow on folk. It looks less porky than most other recent small cars where theres a lot of emphasis and detailing to the front and rear ends with bland sides.

I was expecting something boring similar to Hondas recent design language a combination of wedges and blandness.

Some bad news Honda has decided to postpone the preview of Brio in India. Read the complete article on the following link.

Honda postpones preview of small car Brio in India

NEW DELHI: Japanese auto major Honda today said it has postponed the preview of its small car Brio in India, originally scheduled for March 17, due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last week

Playing cricket in the parking lot just became a little more difficlut. With so much of glass area, a lot more for the thieves to see and decide on whats in the boot.

Welcome change for the security wallah's at the mall.

Er, How much for this one please?

If you carefully see the visible area of the rear glass is almost the same as other small cars. The rest of the areas have some kind of dark pads or blackening.
