Re: Honda Brio - Small car for India - unveiled!*UPDATE* SCOOP Pics Pg.23

From the ANHC to the Brio is quite a big jump.
agreed i did a Civic to ANHC jump.
But you are going two segments down with this thought.
Looks like the parking woes are really troubling you.
I can understand as sometimes i could not get a spot whereas the ANHC would fit into it quite easily. and for those times when i know it's going to be really crowded i take the Matiz. Hoping to still keep all of them and get the Brio to add to the family.

Re: Honda Brio - Small car for India - unveiled!*UPDATE* SCOOP Pics Pg.23

This is something that even I am giving a serious thought. Its a pain finding a parking space in my building, and at times I'm forced to park my Civic in such a way that there barely enough space for a i20 to move out.
But I am not thinking of the Brio but the Jazz oh yeah!

AT is the need of the hour. Hope both cars get one.
The brio being lighter will naturally be a better drive. It may even be tuned differently to favour lower end grunt. I am also all for the AT.

I hope they do remove the 'mask' on the rear screen. For a city runabout you definitely need better rear visibility then in the City. I have no experience of the Jazz so will not comment.

I'd like to correct you on that.

The Jazz isn't a City with a chopped boot. Rather, the City is a redesigned Jazz with a boot. The City is sold only in a few markets, but you will find the Jazz in almost every market.

The Brio would be an absolute success if Honda plonk a diesel lump into its engine-bay. The petrol Brio would be the best car in its segment. But that would depend on how well Honda price it.

Cheers!

^^Not all, it is still the Jazz in Singapore, for example.

Back on-topic, doesn't the Brio look awfully SMALL? I was reminded of a Santro when I saw it. And the rear is truly horrendous- probably the worst tushie of an Indian car bar the Ritz. Very disappointing!

I think that gaudy rear should grow on people, in time, of course.

The rest of is is rather alright. It does look a bit small, but then so is the Micra. And I'd like to believe that the Brio is aimed squarely at the Micra. Both are ugly ducklings so to speak. But I'd take the Brio over the Micra any day.

Honda's service network and dealerships are fully established. Honda is known for their bullet-proof A.S.S. It's still early days for Nissan, though.

My only grouse with Honda is that they shortchange their customers a wee bit. Either by pricing their products too high, or selling a bare-to-the-bones car, or both. But now, with the Jazz @ 5.5 lakhs and the Brio due for launch soon (expect it to be a good 1,00,000 cheaper than the Jazz), Honda's future in India looks brighter than ever.

From the pics, the G.C seems not more than 160mm. Hope guys at Honda realise, Indian roads are smooth only for avg 3 months max in an year, in any of the target customers' major cities/ towns.
Hope they worked on the under body well and tuned up suspension set up for sustaining the abuse, if not willing to increase the G.C.

How much would the price difference equate to had they plonked the 1.5 in Jazz ? Is the tax benefit for Honda or the customer ?

While the Brio gets the 1.2 from the jazz.
I heard from a source that the Jazz just might get a 1.5L at some point of time. But one thing is for sure. Reading the prices of the new jazz. We can expect the Brio to.be juicily priced.

You’re right. In many markets, Honda sell the same car with different engines. For e.g.; Jazz with 1.3/1.5 motors, Civic with 1.6/1.8/2.0 engines. With this updated pricing, Honda has left enough room for a Jazz 1.5 or an AT variant. I can see good times ahead for Honda even with just petrol options

Exactly. They must price the Brio in i10 territory. That ll definitely get them the volumes.
Exciting times ahead for hatch buyers

If Jazz starts at 5.5 , where will Brio start? 3.5?

The killer pricing of the Jazz facelift can now make us safely assume that Brio will come in the 4L - 5L bracket, or maybe a slight notch below.

I am guessing 3 variants (same as the Jazz and the City), and my estimated price ranges are -

Base at 3.89 - 3.99L,
Mid at 4.19 - 4.29L, and
High at 4.59 - 4.69L,
(if possible) AT at 4.99 - 5.09L,

(maybe slightly more for the High, for alloys, fog lamps, spoiler, powered ORVMs and generous doses of chrome)

which will bring it bang into the i10, Beat, Wagon R, etc. territory.

IMO, AT is unlikely. Jazz is not having it. So, it's unlikely that they'll bring AT in the cheaper Brio.
