Cars are not commodities. Its life is at-least 15 years. When FIAT let down its customer previously, why would any risk averse person trust FIAT would not do this again?

Recipe for disaster to existing customers.

Fiat has done that only in the case of 'Adventure' . They haven't stopped any other model like that . But still they to a certain extent is helping its customers like no one else would do . I should actually start a thread for that gesture from Fiat .

Re: November 2010 - Indian car sales figures

November has thrown lot of surprises

1) SX4 sales at 1300 odd. Whats wrong with VTVT ?
2) Fiesta Sales at 1000 odd. Is this on the way out?
3) New players Vento and Etios are going to make the Sedan market really hot?
4) Figo at 5000 + has a real challenge holding on to a highly competitive market

Surprising to see Skodas moving so fast in spite of their A.S.S. not showing any signs of improvement.

Guess a lot of this has to be the outcome of Customer Perception of Quality and Brand. In SX4's case customer has a better quality option in City, Linea and Fiesta with similar or better brand name.

Look at the JD Power Asia Pacific Rankings.

I am surprised to find some well doing cars are not in the list, while some not so well doing cars like Honda Jazz and Chevy Beat topping the segment comprised of who's who is premium hatchback segment and beating even the second runner up swift by some margins.

In-fact some good selling names like Ford Figo, Hyundai i20, VW Polo, New WagonR, Cruze, Ritz etc dont find a name in top quality list.

Re: November 2010 - Indian car sales figures

Are these booking numbers or deliveries? Bookings can be any number and bookings are often cancelled (especially with VW Polo, Vento and the other vehicles with long delivery time-frames).

Vehicles delivered is a better measure of the sales figures than bookings.

See GTO's earlier post.

Sir,

Time and again it had been mentioned that all the mentioned figures are primary sales figures ( From company to the dealers)

Vehicles delivered to the customers from the dealers (secondary sales figures) are seldom leaked out.

Ok then it is clear that these numbers may be a result of year end pressures on dealerships by companies. Some companies may resort to these tactics to inflate sales figures.

195 Gypsies sold by Maruti...all is well with the world again!

Re: November 2010 - Indian car sales figures

Over the past few months, its been pleasing to note that Outlander outsells the CRV. The top end version of CRV is close to 8 L more expensive than Outlander. Yet the cheaper outlander manage offer more creature comforts than the latter.

I guess the JD power ratings are just for quality which ain't the end of it all in the Indian market. Jazz is an amazingly well constructed vehicle. Am not surprised at all by its position in the list! Not too sure about the Beat though..

Re: November 2010 - Indian car sales figures

Some interesting changes in dynamics and other observations

Accord – Superb gap much narrower this time (260 – 279)

Didn’t realise the outdated Pajero still outsells the Outlander.[/

Estilo @ 4439 compared to its other siblings in the similar price range makes me wonder if its even worth selling that car anymore.

4 Vitaras to 195 Gypsies. Maybe they should focus on a new product smack in the gypsy’s price range.

When will the numbers for Audi and BMW be updated? I think it will be interesting to compare them with mercedes benz sales figures.

I think BMW numbers are out. There is an article in ET, telling the sales till Nov 2010 for BMW has over taken Merc over the same period.

GTO, could you add the figures please, if ready.

according to the latest Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) figures, BMW has made a strong comeback and sold 5,345 units compared to 5,109 units sold by Mercedes Benz during the last 11 months of this year
