re: Nano Upgrade coming soon. *UPDATE* Launched! Details on Page 12

With power and torque expected from the diesel engine and heavier weight as a result, its only pertinent that it comes with front disc brakes at the very least.

re: Nano Upgrade coming soon. *UPDATE* Launched! Details on Page 12

India’s leading business magazine BusinessWorld has carried a comprehensive report on the future of the Tata Nano and how Tata Motors is working to resurrect sales of the mini car that is showing another sales decline in the latest issue.

The report states that Nano will receive a few cosmetic upgrades, higher fuel economy and a diesel engine in the next stage. There’s no Nano 2 (a thoroughly revised model) as yet. Instead an improved edition with a tweaked engine will come out to encourage more people to come have a look.

The report adds that a micro-hybrid variant (start-stop technology) “may come soon.” Tata displayed a special Nano installed with this technology at the Delhi Auto Expo last year.

Tata is also planning to give the Nano new features. Bosch is ready with an inexpensive power steering unit while we have spotted a Nano testing with two ORVMs and a top-hinged rear windshield.

The twin cylinder diesel Nano with 40kmpl fuel economy figure could be the next big thing, but to be safe Tata is looking at SAARC countries to create demand. With Sri Lanka and Nepal ticked off, Bangladesh and Pakistan are next on the radar.

On the front end, Tata plans 300-plus exclusive dealerships for the Nano and another 350-odd SNAP (special Nano access points) by the end of 2011. It may also ask select commercial vehicle dealers to sell Nano if the demand rises.

That is a nice offer indeed, especially for LX. Is it just a 0 down or the interest rate is also subsidized?

There is no interest rate reduction, it is 13%, however the discount is applied for the finance option also thus bringing down the interest rate. The FAQ i Saw says that 25,000 off translates to 5% rate of interest. Additionally : 1. These Nanos will have signature of Mr. Ratan Tata. 2. It can be bought in a relatives name, however the employee has to be co-borrower and the EMI will be deducted thro employee salary.

Insiders, any idea if Tata is working on diesel Nano?
Yes, Tata is woking on a Diesel Nano. It was testing the diesel engine with a Borg Warner turbo and few other components. Later it was testing the diesel engine with Honeywell (aka Garrett) turbo and few other components (saw this being done recently). It is likely that the Diesel nano engine will be propelled by a Garrett turbo as Tata has used Honeywell's technology in their Dicor engines. Will try to get and post more details at the earliest.

From what I hear from my friends, TML is making a big push to sell Nano to TCS employees with advertisement in portals, road shows and e-mails from Sr. Mgmt. Few of my friends jokingly commented that the only thing that is missing is about setting targets to TCS Mgrs. on Nano sales in their team

Hello fellas,

The nano that is on offer for TCSers has "Tip-tap OVRM" for the passenger too.

So, this upgrade might just come sooner.

Also, all the existing nano owners might just be able to fix it on their rides since TASS would start having spares.

Top-hinged rear windshield is a welcome move IMO.
I would love to see electric Nano competing with Reva

Nano Plus is here and how !

Tata Nano is back with an upgraded version and will be called NANO PLUS. While it was rumoured to bring major changes to the little car, TATA seem to have shied away from any such drastic improvements.

The launch is scheduled for second week of November and plant has begun deliveries to dealerships across nation in the past week.

The list of confirmed changes are as follows:

1. New Interior Colour Combination
2. Better upholstered and cushioned seats
3. 25KMPL Mileage (If it is not 25, it isn't enough! )
4. Anti Roll Bar for better stability
5. New Exterior Colours (Only Sunshine Yellow & Champagne Gold have been retained)
6. NO CHANGE IN PRICING.

As is evident, following updates as rumoured have been shelved till next iteration of the vehicle:
1. Power Steering
2. Europa styling
3. Rear Hatch

More info to follow soon !

Tata needs to use its clout to make the base Nano a replacement for the autorickshaw. In places having extreme climate like NCR, it is a FAR better option for the average joe.

And it doesnt occupy too much space either compared to the humble auto !

So the Nano Plus retains the old Nano's Auto Rickshaw sound?
If yes, then again the same story will repeat for them.

Ahem! Ahem!
Well, there has been some modifications on that department not too extreme to the extent of change in engine but yes, humble nano will now be much less of a noisy neighbour !
Can only confirm after inspecting the vehicle in true flesh hence did not include in my list of confirmed changes.

Thanks Akhilesh! What's the status of the diesel variant? TML needs to launch that soon to arrest the declining sales graph.

Unfortunately that will discourage 'would be' private car owners from buying the Nano, I think this option should be the last resort..
