Anything between 1.45-1.5 is a decent buy. Try bargaining.

Hello BHPians,

Need your expert advice on buying this second hand car

I have one my colleagues selling a Opel Corsa 1.4 sail. Though i haven't driven the car, i felt it was a good choice for the budget which i have and moreover the i saw of couple of forums whcih had very good revs about the car (Except for the mileage, which offcourse everyne knows)

Below is what he claims about the car.

Good condition Opel Corsa SAIL 1.4 Sep 2003 Model. Rust color.
First owner. Karnataka Registration.
Scratchless car. Very well maintained.
Comprehensive Insurance with 50% No Claim Bonus.
No accident history, no major repair history.
Excellent to drive.
44,000 kms done. New Battery.
City Mileage between 10.5 to 11.0 km per litre; Highway Mileage between 14.0 to 14.5 km per litre.

My questions are

1. How is overall performance of the car
2. Any specifc problems with repsect to model
3. Overall Maintenance
4. Advice on owning this car

Cheers

Depends on the condition of the vehicle. You will have to estimate the repair and conditioning costs also.

FYI, I bought a used Fiat Palio GTX 2001 model in a good condition for 1.3 L. Repair and servicing costs came upto 13K.

Having said that 1.5 L is a decent price for 2003 model.

Ok Here are 2 cars staring at me within my requirements and Budget. The Purchase is going to be a third car with limited run, mostly city / lady driven and parked mostly outside.

I need to decide between a decent 2003 Palio Sport 55k and 2003 Black Corsa 1.4 41K . the Palio is company maintained and has a decent bodyline. The Corsa looks a bit abused. Test drove both , the CORSA feels more comfy and light when compared to heavier 1.6

Iam getting both for the same price. and need to decide ASAP.

Thanks for your advice.

Urgent purchase - Advice needed on Zen

Hello friends,

Back with another of my advice needed threads (might break the record for the number of "advice needed" threads here )

Coming back to the matter at hand, a friend of mine wants to purchase a car in a budget of 2.4L max, not even 1000 bucks more than that. She is in a kind of hurry to finish the deal & I am not qualified enough to help her our personally with the zen as i dont have much knowledge about zen as a car and how long would a used zen last for etc. So approaching the fellow t-bhpians for help again. She is planning to keep this car for 3-4 years and then switch over to a Sedan

Need your quick and good advice on a few deals which she has already worked out with her friends husband who is in the used car business. I trust fellow t-bhpians more than a used car dealer.

The deals that she has got are as below:

2001 model - 70k kms run, asking price 2.1L
2001 model - kms run unknown, asking price 2.25L
2002 model - 55k kms run, asking price 2.35L
2003 model - 50k kms run, asking price 2.35L

Please let me know which are the best deals of the above. She is not sure if they are carb ones or mpfi (i am also not sure as to since when did zen start with mpfi). Also to enlighten myself, what is the engine life of a Zen and is it safe to purchase a zen that has already done 70k kms. And will such a car survive another 3-4 years of use.

Thanks for your help guys.. As always!!!

I have booked a 2002 Zen LXI for 2.3L on saturday at Maruti true value which has run 24000Kms. The dealer has already changed some of the defective parts like the cluch plate, brake assembly, tail light assembly, 2 new front tyres etc. The dealer showed me a rough figure of Rs.20K expenses which was made on this car.

24000 kms and 2 new tyres and clutch plate? I think dealer is trying to fool you with the odo reading, zen tyres even with 4 tyres being used for wheel rotation, should not warrant 2 tyre replacement at 24k kms.

@abhinav, I feel those prices & cars are not very good deals. They are already a few years old, and after 3-4 years of your usage, they will not have any resale value left in it atall. Also, the Zen is an out-of-production model now.

What is the fair price for a 1994 SIERRA?

Hi everyone,

I'm in a bit of a dilema. I want to dispose off my SIERRA, main reason being my Parents are not too old to get into it. Want to replace it with something that is friendly on 60+ year olds.

I bought it for 1,00,000. We saw an engine overhaul and suspension overhaul alongwith new tyres and batteries. Many tit-bits also. Overall, I've spent almost 1,50,000 on it.

I've been quoting 1,00,000 for it, but people have offered me 80,000 maximum.

I don't want to come across as someone who is greedy nor do I want to look like a fool.

Looking forward to all your comments on how much I could sell it for
  • 1994 December, White TATA SIERRA
  • 2nd Owner
  • In excellent condition
