Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Hello Bhpians. Hope you are all doing good.
This is my first post apart from the introduction post. Please excuse for any mistakes.
We currently own a first gen Ford Figo (2010) - 1.75 lakh kms on the ODO and a Honda Jazz CVT(2015) - 60K kms back home in Udupi. As I am working in Bangalore, due to the current situation I am on the lookout for a pre-worshipped car.

My requirements,
Yearly running of about 10-15K kms. Monthly visit to hometown and occasional trips to the mountains and minor offroading.

Budget - 4 lakhs

Since we already own 2 hatchbacks at home, buying another one does not seem much of a value. Buying a SUV which would provide good seating comfort when travelling with family (5 people) and safety would be a better choice. If I am buying a SUV, 4X4 is a must.

During my search, I have come across a single owner Tata Safari Dicor 2.2 4X4 from 2011.
The car has run only about 60K kms, majority of which is on the highway. Owner has another car, and the Safari was only used for outstation trips.
Battery has been changed recently and the comprehensive insurance has been renewed about a month back.

Me and my Dad took a test drive of the car and it is in very good condition (Mechanically & appearance). It still runs on the tyres on which it came out of the factory. Verified the manufacturing date. The car appears well looked after.

Now coming to the price, owner is asking for 4.5 lakhs due to the car condition and rarity of Safari 4X4. To an extent he is still undecided on selling the car.

I have researched about Tata Safari through Team-bhp and other sources. I understand that the car had a fair share of niggles in the initial batches. Since this car is from 2011, logically majority of them would have been sorted.
I am okay with the minor issues here and there keeping in mind that the car is 10 years old. I prefer working on my bike myself for any minor issues, this car would be a good platform to learn too. Moreover, Safari has been a childhood favourite of mine. So it is a case of heart winning over head.
I am planning on getting the car inspected by a known mechanic before proceeding further.

I need your inputs to understand whether this would be a good buy. Your comments will be of great value.
Thanks in advance.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

My 7 years old Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI is giving me headache of late. I'm looking to sell it off and get a reliable pre-owned car which I intend to use for 3-4 years.

I'm considering S-cross 1.6, Compass 2.0 multijet and Petrol City/Amaze. Any other suggested additions to the list?

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Hi experts,

I am planning to get in used car market for the very first time and that too Skoda, so need some honest opinion before I get into it.
I currently own a VW vento 1.6 2013 model and plan to replace this.
My requirement are simple:
1)Automatic
2)Performance
3)Maintenance should not be too high as compared to vento that I currently own
4) Max budget of 20L

With this in mind I am starting to look at used act market and found octavia L&K 2018 manufactured and 2019 registered, 20k on ODO and HR registered. Service and warranty till 2022. Deal is for 19L but negotiations still need to be done.
I love octavia and I know that new octavia will be 1.5 and top variant will be out of budget.
Please suggest.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Looking for a reliable 7 seater and have been scouting for a Hexa auto for quite some time now.

I came across this ad on TBhp:
Mumbai Hexa XTA 2017

Asking price is 12.5L which in opinion is bit higher, considering similar deals in Pune (they are with dealer which I want to avoid).

1) What would be a fair amount to pay for this? (considering papers as well as mechanicals & electricals are all fine)
2) I'm based in Pune: how easy difficult would it be to transfer the car on my name (car is MH43)?

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

I am looking to buy a pre-loved Diesel CSUV that is 2-3 year old. The budget is max 8.5 Lakh and the priorities are safety (safe structure, ABS, EBD, ESP and min 2 airbags), Ease of drive (AMT will do) and comfort - as I have lower back pain issues.

The cars shortlisted -
  1. Brezza Diesel AMT - Not many ZDI & ZDI+ available. VDI is barebone.
  2. Nexon Diesel AMT - Hardly any XZA+ available. I am not interested in XMA.

Then we have added 2 Manual cars in our list as well -
  1. Ecosport 1.5 TDCI MT - New Titanium is available at ~11.25 Lakhs.
  2. S-Cross 1.3*

Asking price for a 2018 10-40K run model of any of these is in 9 Lakh+ range in Delhi. Am I right in feeling that these are overpriced. What's the right price in Delhi for these?

Also any suggestions on which one among these should I go for?

Finally, is it worth going for AMT. I can live with less refinement if it provides the ease of drive and comfort.

Just for a perspective,
My dad purchased a 23 month old Ecosport S Diesel for 9.65L, 12.5K kms run. Excellent to great condition, with just couple of small spots where paint has chipped off, on front passenger side door.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

One question I got when calling several big dealers in used car market, Do big dealers like cars24, Spinny, Precarmart also tamper the ODO?

The cars24 SA told me that the cars which they sell are not tampered, but cars advertised by the dealers even on their platform can have tampered ODO or parts changed. The big dealers were giving 6-12 month warranty because according to them they do not sell tampered cars.

How does this warranty from used car dealers work? Can someone throw some light on these.

Thank you

Can they tamper it? YES
Do they do it? Sometimes, may be

Having been in used car hunting mode for over months now, my recommendation: Do not believe a word a dealer say.

Do your homework.
Take the car to service station get it checked, even if it costs you some change.
Match the service records with current odo.
Service intervals: time and km between each service should be consistent.
Any deviation should be probed further.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Hi All,

What could be a good price for 6 months old Venue SX 1.5 D which has run just 6200 kms so far. The car is in pristine shape as good as new. The new one costs about 11.5 lakhs here in Gurgaon.

The seller is asking for 10 lakhs, which I feel is a tad high.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Hi All,

I am considering a Oct 2017 S-Cross Zeta 1.3 SHVS which has run 35,000 KMs so far. The car is in good shape and has been serviced at Maruti Service Centre as per schedule.
The dealer is stuck at 7.75L. Is it fair price in Delhi?

Thanks,

15% off from the new one is a fair deal. Check if the vehicle is hypothecated to any bank and work out the nitty-gritties.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Here is my experience.

I had owned Honda Amaze EXMT D. It had clocked 131000 KM, all services were done at Honda Service center. As I planned to keep it for couple of years more due to personal reason. So I put brand new set of tyres (Yokohoma 15") and alloys (38k), changed seat cover and 7D floor matt (18k). I also got the full body job and complete underbody treatment done at Go-Mechanic (36k). The car was in immaculate condition with no known issue whatsoever.

Then my friend who purchased Suzuki Ciaz Alpha in April 2019, got a job offer and moved to UK so I took his car.

There was no reason to keep both cars so I decided to sell Amaze so I contacted few dealerships like CARS24, OLX cash my car and I was quoted various prices starting from 1.80 to 2.45 lakhs. I was demanding 2.80. Finally I sold it directly to person from my social circle at 2.60 lakhs.

Now here is an interesting part. Another friend sold his 2013 Swift at CARS24 at price of 3.25 lakhs. The car was in average condition, all tyres had worn out, the steering rack assembly was defective, paint had lost its shine completely. He even removed alloys and music system.

These two cases trigger question, how did CARS24 decide the price of both cars. I think resale value of honda cars ia as good as maruti if not better. What are your views?
