I sold my Ecosport Petrol Titanium Auto 2015 May with 30K run for 6.6 L in Bangalore. I was the second owner. My car had a few minor dents and scratches but was otherwise in great condition.

I got an offer of 6.25L from True Value with exchange bonus. Cars24 had promised me 6.93-7.43 but finally ended up offering 6.10 after fees etc.

I was quite surprised at the price to be honest, given it was 6 years old, I was expecting around 40% of the purchase price, which was between 5.5-6 lakhs. I guess it is the waiting period for new cars, the general good impression of Ford cars and the preference for good automatic cars that drove up the price.

Guys, is it a good idea to pick up this vehicle? Yes or No. If yes, at what price?

Vehicle Details
- Mercedes Benz GL 350 CDI
- March 2017 registered. 2016 manufactured
- Has run 70,000 kms
- Insurance expiring in march 2021
- Extended warranty available till march 2021. I can buy additional warranty but it will cost 3.8 lakhs it seems ( as per the owner. didnt check with mercedes yet) He advises not to go for extended warranty as the car has only run 70k kms and his last 2 year extended warranty has been a waste.
- Color change - Car was originally grey color. Owner has repainted it in white . He likes white and he infact wrapped it in white from day one. Now he removed the wrap and repainted it in full white. I am not sure if it was accidental but it will be perceived as accidental when i sell. That risk is there.
- What is the procedure to change car color in RC papers? How much will it cost?
- Pondicherry registered. If i buy how much should i pay for RTO transfer ? As per carwale the difference in RTO for a new GLS is 16lakhs in chennai vs 1.5 lakhs in pondichery. Will i have to pay similar amount.. in lakhs?


Owner Details
- He is our family doctor and a person known to my family for nearly 20 years. He has a GLA and GL and now replacing both with GLC COUPE and GLS.
- I know the car has been used single handedly and maintained really well. He is very particular about not having any scratches and removes them all every march.

OLX / CARWALE data
- There are many 2013/2014 GLs going for 35-40 lakhs across the country but not many 2017 GLs.
- The 2016 / 2017 GLS are available for 50+ lakhs.

Maintenance
- Out of warranty germans are treated like second class citizens in this forum and for good reasons too. The gentleman who had a 530d with engine problems comes to my mind when i think about this car.
- How much will it cost per year to maintain this car?

Should i check it out? or let it pass? Am i trying to punch above my weight?

The original owner will need to endorse the colour change in the car RC book before selling it.

You will need to pay the road tax difference to the TN RTO if you re register the car in TN. You could do what your doctor probably did and register the car on a dummy Pondy address with the connivance of some agents / RTO staff.

However, the TN cops know the road tax difference very well and will generally start to pay attention if a PY registered German turns up with parking stickers of some Chennai apartment complex or office building, or if it is seen too often on Chennai roads doing eg school drops. Then you will have to pay the road tax difference + a penalty.

I sold a similar condition Ecosport (Manual though), 2016 Petrol Titanium model with 28K kms for 6.3 lakhs around 6 months back.

I am planning to replace my i20 asta diesel 2016. Got a quote of 5,89000 from Cars24, they are asking me to take a token amount of 1000 and close the deal by giving RC book. Payment will happen once my hypothecation is done and bank NOC and form 35 is given. Is this normal?
OLX is quoting 5,15000 but they will pay upfront and hold back 10 percent. Tata is giving exchange quote of 5,50000 if I go for Safari. What do you guys advice? Am I getting a good price for the car?

The price is fine but handing over your original RC book just for 1000 rupees advance is a joke and simply exploitative behaviour. Just delay the deal asking for a better price while meanwhile cancel the hypothecation yourself. Don't handover original RC book without receiving full payment.

Imagine , if you are going as a buyer , no seller or dealer is going to handover original RC book merely on making 1000 rupees advance payment.If they won't give money without hypothecation removal ,then they should have simply refused to evaluate a vehicle in hypothecation.

Just remembered, they also charge a 5000 cancellation penalty while merely paying a 1000 rupees advance. Screwing the seller with biased T&C .

This is exactly what I am doing. In fact I found CARS24's overall approach to be very aggressive. They have been calling me nonstop. I have closed my loan myself but getting the NOC is taking time. Anyways, I am seriously looking elsewhere for a sale. The only catch has been that these guys have quoted the best price so far. Anyone dealing with these guys need to be very vigilant with their terms.

This is how they function. I don't see any issues here. If hypothecation is not there, they will credit the full amount in few hours. This isn't going to be done through some oral agreement - they will give the receipt with terms and conditions mentioned.

I did some checks and found actual 2016 OTR price was around 14L for VX CVT. I am planning to offer 6L based on the condition. Thanks.
