Thanks vigsom & karanraheja. That was helpful.

Pathetic mileage - in single digits, as per a neighbour who owned a 1.6. But I loved the looks of the car and the fact that it is super-silent - when he would drive around the apartment block on his way out/in, one would not 'hear' the car even when it is just inches behind you.

Just for everyone's benefit, I was selling a second owner Elantra Crdi 2005 model (with leather option pack) and was offered a 2 lac from a Hyundai showroom and 2.25 lac from Mahindra firstchoice.

Finally sold it for 2.85 net of brokerage to a local car dealer. The car had done about 90k on the odo.

http://classifieds.team-bhp.com/buy-.../-Other-.html/

This is the classified posted by my office colleague. Is this ok? Should he be asking for more or less? It's in perfect running condition. Interior, switches, exhaust pie, clutch-plate etc has been changed. V8 engine. Taxes paid till 2020. So what do you guys think?

^^ Thanks for the reply mate. Corollas are out of range at the moment. Won't be spending more than 200,000.

Anyways, saw the car. Looks decent. Few minor scratches, tires looked old. Interiors are not that good. Going for a TD tomorrow. One point of concern is that the dealer says he doesn't have the full service history. Anyways, have two other cars to check out tomorrow. An OHC 1.3, 2003 - 50k kms - 2nd Owner, and another Optra 1.6 LT - 2004 - 47k kms - 1st owner.

Lets see what fate has in store

Beware of any dealer who says he doesn't have the service history, it could be a sign of a tampered km gauge. Opera engine overhauls are expensive. My uncle's car had to go thru one at rand 80k Kms.

Optra can get expensive to maintain after 80,000 km. Go for the Optra only if your annual mileage is less than 10,000 km per year. If it is more, a Corolla might be easier on the pocket. Although you might be spending more on a Corolla initially, you will recover that via lower maintenance costs and higher resale value when its time to sell your car.

However, Optra has better ride/ handling and better high speed manners than the Corolla.

Thats a pretty good price you got for your accent I would say. My Honda City 2005, done only 50k kms is not fetching me even 3L as of now.

Many thanks for the point of reference. You managed an excellent price! I was under the impression that Accent Petrols were rather low on resale values.

I was ok with the price I got considering that the tyres were due for replacement and I had a cracked windshield. Also, as per my own research, given that I was a second owner, prices were bound to be a bit lower. I may have got another few thousands, but was in a hurry since I needed it for a new car

^^ I think you got a decent price for your car. It's more a case of the Accent going for a higher price. Pretty sure that no dealer in Gurgaon would offer more than 2L for a 05 Accent petrol.

Hey smartcat!

Thanks for the heads up. The annual mileage would hardly cross 6-8,000 kms. And we don't intend to keep this car for more than 2-3 years. This is going to be a backup car for days when it pours, or is too hot to take the bike out. Or for a weekend drive to the movies and occasional shopping. That's all. Nothing else.

Anyways, did do a TD of the 2004 Optra. Found it crashing over bumps and potholes. Tires had absolutely no grip whatsoever. They will need immediate replacement. And to top it all, the dealer does not have any service history. Nothing at all. So after the TD was over, I got out of the car, turned around and came back home

Indeed a good price for the 2005 Accent-P. And if the City-2005 is not even getting 3L, I am not even hazarding a guess about what my Baleno-2005 would fetch.

^^ Niche cars would be respected only by chic buyers.

BTW Carnation offered 90,000 bucks to my ex Boss for his Oct2004 Baleno Vxi ; he replied by spending 25k on the car and running it.

Man, that is downright outrageous price for a 8-year old 1.6L car !!! BTW, which city was this at ? Your location says "Diamond" - cannot make out what place it refers to...

BTW, not a good idea to deal with dealers/TruValiue etc if you want to get the best price. Always leave out the middlemen and talk direct to the buyer. In 2004 when we sold our 1985 M800, TruValue offered 20K for a car in perfect running condition, original paint in good shine and almost no scratches. I sold it for 40K to a direct buyer - took some time placing ads in FreeAds etc, but it was worth the 100% extra I got for the car.
