No way is a 5 yr old high mileage DSG worth more than 5.5L, and that’s for a flawless example..

There’s just too much risk involved in case anything goes wrong with that transmission.

Don’t get carried away with the exterior condition as it’s the mechanicals what matters. Moreover, it’s no Toyota/Honda/Suzuki to demand stellar resale value. German cars are depreciation disasters, don’t overpay!

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Make : Skoda
Model : Superb facelift
Transmission : MT ( not the dreaded DSG )
Fuel type : Petrol
KM clocked : 55000
Owner : 1st
Year : 2015
Demand : 9 L

Have been thinking of exchanging my vento petrol MT for sometime now. Was initally looking at new cars but nothing below 15 L is exciting enough. So then someone advised me to go the second hand route. Considering my running is very low, around 500 km’s month. Does it make sense to pickup a used superb MT. Will it be reliable ? Everyone knows DSG can a be a hit or a miss. But what about superb MT’s. My vento MT has been completely niggle free in 6 years of ownership and I feel it is a keeper. What do fellow members suggest regaring vento to superb MT upgrade.

Since you already own a German (a known evil), and like you said your usage is low, a MT Superb may be alright for you. However, have a trusted mechanic who specialises in Skoda, go through the car with a fine tooth comb & especially pay attention to all the error codes that you find.

Make sure a trusted mechanic gives you the green light before you put down any money for the car.

Don’t expect the car to be as reliable or cheap to maintain as a Toyota/Honda, and certainly don’t think you can drive it for 20,000km/yr and expect it to not require constant attention.

However, for the price you’re getting it at, it should hold up okay for 500km/month. I’d still bargain harder & deduct any tyre/battery/service costs which you may be required to spend post purchase.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Hi All,

Hope everyone's safe. I've been on the look out for a beater car for a couple of months. my budget is in the region of 6l for a used car, or can go up 7-7.5 for a new vehicle.

I have seen a 2016 Honda BR-V that seems to be in good nick. It's an S MT petrol model, that's done 29k odd kms. Reason for looking at the BR-V: bullet proof engine, decent ground clearance and enough room to carry loads.

The dealer isn't budging from 6.6l (original quote 6.95l). Is that a good price? I find it a little overpriced, as the model wasn't very successful and is now out of production too. I was of the opinion that the price of such a car should be around 5.5l or thereabouts for a 4 year old car.

I will be checking out 2016 s-cross 1.3 Zeta (57k run, asking price 6.14l) and a 2018 Brezza LDI (41k run, asking price 7.8), not too keen on the Brezza though.

Would appreciate any insights on the above.

What exactly are you planning to carry when you imply loads?

If you mean heavy cargo, none of those vehicles will make the cut.

Plus you’re comparing a 7 seater petrol vs 5 seater diesels.

Can you please elaborate on your intended use?

For reliability & safety, its Toyota/Honda all the way! Since you need lots of space, the BR-V with the last row folded/removed will give you plenty of space compared to the S-Cross. The BRV is low mileage too, though overpriced. Try to get it down as close to 6L, as best you can. Use the need to replace all tyres, battery, oils, etc to lower the price.

Test drive them all & choose the one which you find rides the best, fully loaded. They should all be fairly reliable.

Always get a trusted mechanic to check out the vehicle before you commit to any of them.

Sorry, I should have specified that. Basically bags from airport runs - Usually around 3 full sized ones and 4 passengers. While the 7 seats are a plus, they aren't essential. With the S-Cross, I plan on installing a roof box or carrier as well. I have no preference in terms of petrol or diesel.
My larger concern is reliability and decent build. These are the only 2 Marutis that boast of a decent build.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Hello folks, what would be the ideal price for an April 2016 Jazz SV petrol, that has run 29k kms? The car is in fairly good shape. It has one previous owner and is being sold by Maruti True Value.

The dealer was quoting 5.65 and is prepared to let it go for 5.25, I had told them that I feel a fair price in the region of 4.75 thereabouts. OBV suggests a price of 4.5L.

The dealer is pretty adamant at 5.25, is that a fair price? Would really appreciate some inputs thanks.

5 would be fair if the tyres and clutch are in good condition.

Why dont you buy the Swift base model at 5.5 lakhs, unless space is your criteria of purchase. A new swift will give you same safety, color option, warranty and Maruti peace of mind.

A Jazz is a good car with a horrible driving experience with sluggish engine.

Re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread

Good Morning Bhpians, I am planning on buying a 2012 December make, 2013 March registered VW Jetta Trendline. It has clocked 73000 kms till date.

I checked the complete service history and found the kms to be legit. The clutch and battery has been replaced around 50K kms. There are not accident replacements and the body and paint is in really good condition. Front tyres are fairly new but the rear two tyres may need a replacement after 10K kms.

The car will be delivered after the annual servicing is done and a with new insurance. The deal is finalized at 5.75 Lakhs in Kerala.

Please share your views.

Compare the features in a poverty spec Swift with a upper mid range Jazz like the SV. Then compare the space and comfort available. For city driving or even limited highway driving the engine is more than adequate.

Thanks hserus, yes I feel 5 is appropriate too. The clutch seemed fine during my drive. The tyres seem like they should be good for another 25-30k kms

Thanks 2000rpm Yes, one criterion is the space part of it. Secondly, I'm not too convinced about the overall safety of the current Swift vs the Jazz. I could wrong though, as even with the various agencies in place it isn't possible to be sure about the credentials of a model being sold in our market.

I do sort of agree with what you have said about the comparison.

Try looking for the previous generation Jazz - the one in product till 2012. Those ones were better put together and interior quality is a notch or two above the current generation. Engine + gearbox is the same as the current generation petrol Jazz. You also get the practicality of the magic seats at the rear. Reliability is generally considered bullet proof!

What would be the ideal price for a 2010 i20 Magna? Car is DL registered and has done just 46K KMs. Well maintained car with a single owner and serviced at Hyundai throughout. The only niggle is the AC is not working at full capacity and needs to be diagnosed.

What will be the ideal price for a Feb 2012 Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI, run about 125,000?

I am looking to exchange my car for something more fancy in December.
