Re: Team-BHP Car Of The Year 2010

I voted for Vento, an excellent entry level proper sedan, at a very good price point especially the diesel. If the waiting period was not there, it would have definetly become segment benchmark.

I too agree to it, but may not the MODs
There may not be enough vehicles to compete against each other within the same segment except A/B where we saw [in 2010] Chevy Beat, Ford Figo, VW Polo, MS WR, ... wow ! any more releases on the small hatch segments ? [Someone, please dont start a thread saying Figo is NOT a small hatch].
And in mid-size, we saw [in 2010] VW Vento and TKM Etios [anything more ?].
I dont know where those BMW's fall in.
Also, any rival release for TML Aria ? Skoda Yeti ? May be, only from pricing perspective. I am not sure though.

My vote is for ARIA for the reason Sidindica mentioned few posts above and I think, it needs some time to sink in through the people's mind

Prem.

I seem to agree with Amrit's suggestion. Let's have segment-based voting. IMHO, Vento is losing its spot because of Figo.

Re: Team-BHP Car Of The Year 2010

Its tough to decide on 1 car, Etios has given something a lot of poeple were waiting for, but its too early in the game. Polo has brought one of the biggest names and probably one of the most popular names on indian roads.
However i felt that the Figo has given what indian market wanted and also what has turned around Fords fortunes like no car has done in the recent past. Hence my vote goes to Figo.

Re: Team-BHP Car Of The Year 2010

Voted for Figo.
Reason: Until Figo, value for money was Tata's (Vista) monopoly. I never thought Ford would price Figo head to head with Vista.

Big plus was Ford retaining its USP in this VFM car i.e. Handling + Ride.

Re: Team-BHP Car Of The Year 2010

I go for Chevy Beat. A true VFM car in the segment (petrol-only). The engine is perfect for city driving and it's ok for highway rides too. Backed up by Chevy's 3 years free maintenance, it's the car for the masses!
Ford Figo (read Ford Figo TDCi) is a great car too, but the petrol is not as peppy as that of the Beat's.
I'd bet on Beat any day in its segment.

Tata Aria "The New Breed".

Because nothing beats it in the same price range.

I go with Tata Aria. First Indian crossover. A good people mover with SUVish look. A fighter from Tata stable to enter the Premium segment.

My vote is for the Figo for it's value for money package while not really compromising on the drive. Ford has to a good extent understood the mind of the middle class Indian.

Re: Team-BHP Car Of The Year 2010

IMHO, the real contenders are -

FIGO :- VFM offering from Ford with Ford trademark of handling and ride. Its taking head on head with Maruti, Hyundai and Tata. Barring lacklasture petrol engine everything in the car is good.

VENTO :- VW offering that is challenging Honda's city.

ARIA :- Tata has delivered on the build to last vehicle but priced it higher than what tata brand can carry.

ETIOS :- Car build with Indian consumer in mindset and that does exactly what Indian buyers need - SPACE, FE, VFM and overall 'T' badge for 5-7 Lakhs. I haven't seen the car yet but this is no suprise that ard 15-20K booking is done even without the TD of the vehicle. Another Fortuner in the making !!

In the end, it was not difficult to pick the winner as FIGO. Hats off to FORD India

Figo , it is ! Polo is more closer to heart , but head says Figo ! Price and refinement took the game away from Polo

Aria, it is for me. This car has the potential to change the way people look at Tata Motors.

Re: Team-BHP Car Of The Year 2010

The Figo D it is for me. Ford read the market brilliantly and developed a car with just what was required at an amazing price. What makes the Figo's success even sweeter is that Ford was (not sure if it still is) associated with the 'high maintenance' tag, but the Figo has still attracted the masses to Ford showrooms.

If there was a second place, it would probably be the Aria for me. The Vento D has a very strong case, but i feel that the front end styling could have been changed a little bit to give the car its own identity.

The Etios will definitely be a market success, with the 'T' badge on its nose, but it reminds me too much of the Logan.. both to look and the built to a cost feel.

Re: Team-BHP Car Of The Year 2010

Voted the Figo. Excellent VFM product. Delivery schedules are consistent. I think delivery schedule also has to be considered while rating. What is the fun in showing 12000+ bookings, but no cars on the road? I think such a car cannot be termed as car of the year. Well done Ford.
