Re: BMW X1 Launched!!!Starting from 22l

Nice to know the X1 is out. About the pricing, the Corporate Edition seems cheap. But the car itself is El Cheapo with plain jane interiors minus all the funky BMW stuff. That makes it not really money's worth. Nonetheless, for those who crave a Beamer and want that social tatus, this is their prayer answered :-)

Cheers!

Thanks to BMW for bringing the price down. However, the price is still high compared to global prices. Is this car completely manufactured in India?

Re: BMW X1 launched at 22 lakhs! Details on pg. 7!

1,000 booked, BMW's X1 sold out for next 3 months
German auto giant BMW on Thursday launched the much-awaited compact sports utility vehicle X1 with a price range of Rs 22-29.9 lakh (Ex showroom Delhi) across two diesel and a petrol variant. This makes the X1 the lowest-priced BMW vehicle in India. "It is a strategic decision for us to make the X1
the entry-level car for BMW India," said Andreas Chaaf, president, BMW India. "We are very optimistic and bullish with this car in the volume department and expect it to become the largest-selling vehicle for us. Already, we have received 1,000 bookings and are sold out for the next 3 months."
BMW upstaged country cousin Mercedes Benz last year to become the largest-selling premium car maker in the country. This year, too, the firm has witnessed an impressive 60% growth in sales between January and November at 5,345 units against 3,337 units last year.

The company said the luxury car segment was growing very fast and is expected to maintain the growth momentum.

The X1 is powered by 2-litre diesel and petrol engines with average fuel economy figures of 15.24 kilometer per litre and 11.24 km per litre respectively. The car would be assembled at BMW's factory in Chennai whose capacity has been ramped up from 5,400 units per annum to 8,000 per annum on a single shift.

the tech spec sheet on the bmw india site says
iDrive: 8 programmable favourites buttons, fixed 8.8" display with 1280x480 pixel resolution...not a 4 inch screen

Thanks Ahmed and GTO for the news. Unbelieveable pricing by BMW. Like someone said bimmer fans can lay hands on one for 22L. Waiting for the Captivas,Endys,Fortuners and Outlanders to correct their prices. IMHO, anyone who can afford a fortuner and ilk, may stretch for a BMW batch, unless he absolutely knows what he is buying.

Great pricing by BMW. I can already see Fortuner and Santa Fe running for cover and CRV one step closer to death.

The styling (at least from the pictures) is not to my liking. Looks like a BMW Station Wagon/Estate on stilts.

Re: BMW X1 launched at 22 lakhs! Details on pg. 7!

Saw a X1 on road at a hill- engine was quite hoarse and didnt sound refined at all, may be because the proud driver was very enthusiastic and automatic tranny was on a lower gear. The X1 badge was prominent and looked impressive.
I wanted it with Manual tranny, alas it is not available. I am not booking it right now till availability is confirmed and may be a year down the line, if its available with manual transmission option.
Any confirmation on AWD version will be appreciated.

Pricing looks good for a beamer.
Wouldn't this eat up 3-series sales?

Saw one yesterday on the Western Express highway. Looked good in white. Doesn't have the SUV feel at all, at least on the outside.

Way to go BMW.

Re: BMW X1 launched at 22 lakhs! Details on pg. 7!

Wow, at last a crossover compact suv from BMW at a never heard or seen price for the Indian market.Much below their entry-level sedan 320i priced at Rs 26.95 lakh. Rising demand for the X1 will give BMW's overall sales in India a major fillip, enough for the company to maintain its lead over rivals Mercedes-Benz as India's biggest luxury car maker.

BMW X1 launched at 22 lakhs! Details on pg. 7!

I know that most of the members are busy (rightfully so) with the discussion on the Thar !

But wanted to get your take on the BMW X1

The Bimmer has recently overtaken the Merc in terms of Sales figures (Aurangabad et all notwithstanding). The idea is right - To launch a vehicle that is just within (or beyond) the reach of the target segment.

Purists insist that the brand should not be diluted and a Bimmer should come with an engine that gives due respect to its chassis.

I say - 22 lacs and cheaper. Bring it on ! What say you ?

- Has BMW done justice to the 22 lac price tage with a 1.8 petrol ?
- If you could, would you buy the loaded Fortuner / Captiva with a disel mill or a BMW X1 ?
- Is it an extended hatchback or enters the SUV category ?!! (dont kill me for this question)
