Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Somehow Yamaha and Fiat are not able to pull Indian crowd, even after trying all combinations and tricks. A complete rework of strategies may be required.

Even Ford and GM ,whose vehicles were known for high cost of maintenance and spares, are able to recreate a new image in our market.

Why/How are Toyota products still going strong ?

Look at Innova, niether xylo on one side or aria on other cannot beat innova

Look at Altis , The GAP between Cruze & Altis is now visible

Look at Fortuner , Way beyond. Will Yeti & X1 arrest sales of fortuner >????

Seems Etios will follow soon. ..............

Yamaha has been doing exceedingly well in India. Before they introduced the R15,yamaha was a basket case.Trying desperately to push into the volumes market with half baked products.

However they realised their core competency is premium bikes packed with their decades of engineering and performance know how.And they did just that, created the R15 group up and it has been a sell out for Yamaha.

Yamaha has been a very underrated turn around story in India. There product portfolio and line-up and brand positioning is leagues ahead of what it was a few years back.

Quite simply the fact that Toyota does it homework well before launching anything. They go to lengths to understand exactly what the customer needs and tailor make(or modify) a product exactly for that need.

Also they back it up with brilliant and bullet proof reliability and do not charge exorbitant prices.

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

These stats always amaze, and add to it each one's interpretation.

Ford - Fiesta seems to be doing a good job , even when the market knows another fiesta is on the way. 1108 to 1656 - 40% . Terrible sales of Figo surprises me no end.

Chevy - Still flogs the UVA and it seems to pick some numbers. Wonder why- with fresher options like the beat, people still go for it.

Honda - 25% sales boost to the city in the last month of the year when sales are generally dismal. Great going!

Fiat - Dismal sales in general but there is one shining star, the single Fiat 500. Someone still wants it as a symbol of uniqueness.

Hyundai - Santro maintains healthy numbers. i10 drops by 33%, i20 drops by 20%. Is the position of the second largest car manufacturer under threat in 2011?

Mahindra - Good job. Increase in numbers across the board vis a vis november ( xylo, scorpio and even the logan).

Tata - Indigo , sumo , safari all drop vis a vis Nov. Why?

Disaster for Fiat; So for Tata & Ford.

Thought Vista and Manza are VFM enough to lure bnuyers. however!

Overall the sales seems to have taken a beating.End of the year effect anyone?

Fiesta doing surprisingly well while the Figo sales dropped big time. The numbers don't seem to make sense unless there was some inventory issue at the Ford side.

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Figo numbers are surely shocking. I mean I looked for it first in the list and I though I was seeing 5 figure numbers. But 1K + is incomprehensible to me. What went wrong. Too much rush for year end discounts on others ? Infact i10 is in 5 figures.

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Fiat is in real deep trouble. Their "India Strategy" is going down the drain. The decision to go with TATA in India has proved to be an absolute suicide for FIAT.

TATA NANO... What a recovery!!! The amount of effort that TATA put when Nano sales were down. I wonder if they would put the same effort for Fiat.

On the other hand, as figures are "primary" sales (from Manufacturer to Dealer), it might not really be the actual "secondary" sales (Dealer to the market). Possibly the dealers had cars in their stock and did not want a 2010 model in their backyard.

Honda is also going the Fiat way. Except for City, the sales of all their cars seem to have plummeted. Toyota is going very strong only constrained by their inability to produce higher volumes.

It would be very interesting to see a comparison of Jan-Dec 2009 vs Jan-Dec 2010. Guys, would appreciate if somebody is able to consolidate the figures.

This is OT but, from an insider I know this is the only choice they had back then. This or nothing. Let me just say that the Palio was realised as a threat to the Indica.

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Figo's sales figure trends are quite abnormal for Dec 10, looks like something similar happened to Nano last month. I am sure Figo will come back to its original sales figures next month like the Nano.

Terrible Sales for Fiat. Hope the close shop from India. That would be very sad

Figo sales are very surprising, Is it that Ford had any factory shutdown? Or may be is it just the people are waiting for new year to buy?

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

I am surprised at Figo's numbers. Can someone please let us know what happened?
If this continues, will we be seeing 'limited edition' Figo's coming out.
I am sure this would be very bad for the car, as it's not even a year old yet.
