Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Ford India had a promotional campaign called 'December dhamaal' last month.In-spite of all these activities, what happened to Figo numbers remains a unsolved mystery.

I don't know why people on T-BHP are so Anti "U-Va".

Frankly I own a UV-A (Base Model) and One has to ride the car to believe and get that un-real drive, smoothness and reliability which i never used to associate with Chevy Products. In Front and Rear Leg room, it beats some of the sedans outright, incl Fiesta, Ikon, Aveo etc. Even the base models come with some niceties like Power Steering and prices are lower than Swifts, infact somewhat higher than Ritz/Figo.

Rest assured I have driven enough Puntos Figos and Swifts and Polos to get enough feel of cars (Not Necessarily better but in the same level for sure).... And I Love my car .. a lot.
Many a time, when a friend of mine and I go for Long distance driving we take our Uva than his swift because of the ride quality.

Also on the reason why it is still selling. One of my friends went along with me to buy a Beat,,,,,and he saw the UVA sitting there. He wanted to buy Uva instead of Beat after driving both the cars (though I finally pursuaded him to go for Beat, Beat being a longer lasting design and better refinement).

I guess for U-Va buyers its the same reasoning which is selling FIGO in good numbers, i.e. "Lowest Cost/ Sq Foot area." ... i.e. Big Size, Small price.

No Evo-X sold in Dec? Sad to see it is hitting the wall right on launch.! not surprised though.! Also equally sad to see Cedia dying. Unless Mitsu brings in new Lancer, there is no light for them to see.

No offence , but what i meant was it badly needs a facelift + new engines . Its been around for too long and Chevy has hardly bothered to give it a facelift.

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Ford Figo numbers are pretty baffling. I booked my Figo during the December Dhamaal and that Metro Ford showroom alone sold 32 cars that day.
Having said that, the stocks were pretty low. I booked my car at about 7 PM and there were only 3 cars left in stock. The showroom guys told me that the plant was closed during December (year-end maintenence) and the offer is on stocks left only.

Seems like only VW numbers are left? Anyone know how many Polo, Vento, Jetta etc - VW managed to sell in Dec 2010?

That is the real reason for FIGO and Punto numbers.
Please don't write an obituary for these 2 fine cars.
Even FIAT didn't invoice many new cars for it's dealers this month.
Dealers were told to sell of unsold cars lying in the yard.

Just wait for jan 2011 numbers and these 2 will be back to normal levels.

No Idea why, but i do think, its such a sham for chevy to have marketed this product so poorly. Had its sales picked in first few years, this would have been selling in good numbers even now without much marketing. e.g Hyundai Santro. Not to forget the initial few weaknesses of chevy, a.s.s. and Low number of dealerships initially would have cut its initial launch sales. If my memory serves right, this was launched even before Spark.

I am sure chevy must be planning to get the new generation U-va in India Soon to arrest the decline.

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

It seems all the December offers were focused on clearing dealer stocks. That explains most falls except in the case of fiat, which is not just shocking, but also very painful to see.

Independent network or shut shop, the options seems fairly simple for Fiat.

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Thanks GTO!

Maruti is on a roll with their hatches. They sold more swifts than even i10. Now, thats something. SX4 is pathetic at 761. Even Accent sold more at 983! DZire also has come down at 8600. Etios effect?

Toyota rules. Innova,Corolla,Fortuner tops their segments.I guess we need to wait till next month to see real ETIOS numbers.

E-lcass sells more than Civic,Accord,Superb!

Mitsu is a joke - 14 lancers+Cedias!

Fabia's repositioning is a good lesson to manufacturers. You listening, Honda? I am looking forward to see VW numbers, especially, Vento.

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Was thinking the yeti would have done better than that. Laura does not seem to be too affected by it.

I loved the outlander but hm sales performance just keeps dropping. Look at cedia numbers. Dont want to put so much money down on a company with not too much promise. Did that once with the matiz. But you know what the car is still with us and we love it.

Actually the opposite surprises me as a UVA owner. Having recently
bought the vehicles and driven it for quite a few months now, I can
confidently describe it as a very good vehicle - very solid , stable at high
speeds, very good suspension and extremely spacious for 5 adults.

Yes, every vehicle has its minus points. But given all the factors and if
we average them out, sometimes i wonder why they sell so less -

Is it the marketing ? Or we just prefer new cars ?

Just own a UVA to believe it. I rate UVA much higher that those Koreans and Japanese. (pure car versus car, not the equipment list).

Cheers!

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Look at the Advertising/freebees spree TATA went on after the sales of nano dipped for just one month,WHY cant FIAT do something similar?

Shutting up shop once more will completely dissolve the teeny bit of following they have left and they will never be able to make a comeback

And COMPANY OWNED, not independent dealerships are the key, I've experienced the * independent* fiat workshops before the JV.the situation was worse!

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

How did Fiat sell 23 Palios?

The FIAT figures are really quiet unbelievable!

EDIT: What's the source of these sales numbers?

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

I am abit confused here, some people are attributing the lower sales volumes of Ford and Fiat to annual plant closure etc. If the plant is not manufacturing, is it true that there are just 1880 Figos in stock all over India?

How are the sales figures calculated? Is it on the basis of volumes sold by the manf'r to the dealer or on the basis of volumes sold by dealers to customers? Please enlighten!!
