Hi,

I recently heard about Saifi Mahotsava; Saifai is the native place of Mulayam Singh Yadav, UP's chief minister. It's a small village in Etawah, one of the backward districts of UP. But as is the wont of politicians, Mulayam had been spending tax-payers' money like crazy on this village. This village has a stadium, a 400 bed hospital, best raods in state, 24-hour electricity supply, top colleges and what not. And recently he had commissioned Rs. 48-crore for broadening the air-strip.
Apparently he organizes a Saifai mahorsava every year in Saifai (at least when he is power), in this fair all automobiles are exempted of the 12% trade tax. One of my neighbours bought a Indigo from Saifai day before yesterday and that's how I came to know about it. Today I searched for it on the net and found it to be true.
So northern India guys, if you are planning to buy a car, it might be worthwhile to explore this option as well.
