As far as new launches are concerned, my observation is as follows
Winger - Seen few of them as BPO cabs
Indigo CS - Rarely seen
Safari - Comparing one year ago, many more can be seen
Scorpio - Really cant make out because you see it everywhere
Bolero - this one is a surprise, the area where I live, there was only one for last couple of years, it was mine, but I can see at least 5 or 6 of the new model parked in the same area. I am not referring the XL which is used by the BPO guys.
Sumo Grande - This is another surprise, Yet to see one, I was expecting a lot of these (remember the TV Advt..the kid getting up..nice one) , but havent seen even one on the Bangalore roads except one in Salem.

In Jan 2008, Palio Stile sold 316 units. This came down to 200 units in February. Then, i think the Palio Stile Multijet was launched.

March saw sales figures of the Palio (Petrol + diesel) go upto 450 units, which has gone down to 400 units in April. Havent seen the figures of May yet!

Have posted the domestic sales figure for May 2008 here:

Some key points:
Sales growth has been strong in May 2008 primarily because of compacts and utility vehicles. By comparison, sales of midsize and executive vehicles have tanked. People are now moving towards diesel, and companies with no diesel (Honda, Toyota) have suffered.
Maruti still the leader but is suffering because of no offerings in UVs.
Success (12month growth): i10/Santro, Accent/Verna, Indigo, Optra, Octavia, Dzire/SX4, UVs in general.
Sharp declines: Indica, Indigo CS, Fiesta, Aveo, City, Logan, Civic, Corolla.

Thanks Vasudeva!!

Very Interesting figures after a long time!
We may be seeing a definite shift towards diesel cars in near future!

There must be some real brainstorming happening at Honda !

SOme doubts?

- What car does FORD have in the compact (3400-4000 mm) segment?

- ALso unable to make sense of SX4 sales figures for past 6 months..so much disparity!? (4000-4500 mm)

- Is 544 units for Honda in premium segment (4701-5000 mm) the new Accord? Mighty impressive i'd say!

Accord sold 544 units in 5/08 for an all time record (in India of course).
Elantra sold 14 in 5/08. There has been no production since Jan 2007!!! Who is buying?
Inspite of claims, Fabia is not selling. ACI june 2008 had glowing report on VW and its group cars. Coincidentally, Mr. Sorabzee was pictured in neat and clean European environment (who paid for it?). Go thru it, and you could call ACI june 2008 a VW tribute special.

As predicted, GM's balloon burst in May 2008.

One of the 2-Dzire/SX4-is now selling more than City. Likely to be Dzire.

BPO business is still thriving, as attested by rising UV sales.

Mitsu Pajero - still going strong???

I just noticed - Pajero is selling around 150-200 per month!!!

It seems this is getting overshadowed by all the discussion here about CR-V and Captiva....who don't even have the real off-road gear...

Just imagine what numbers Pajero would see if Mitsu go all out in the market without the ridiculous HM!
