Maruti has reported 0 production of Vitara in Apr-Sep 08 but sales of 194. Is it CBU.

From production figures, it seems that Honda is clearing out a lot of June-July stock. Prodn of 170 in 8/08 and 425 in 9/08. Sales of 593 and 672 in 8/08 and 9/08.

Ford Endy has dominated that segment ever since it was launched. What do people find so attractive about that truck? Or is it a favorite with the political parties or authorirites in power and that's what's driving the sales.

This was the case with the Ikon too, where they got off to a roaring start. After a year or so at the top of the charts, the numbers started going down rapidly. Post-ownership experiences?

actually if one want to have a ruthless monster kind of looking car there cant be a more macho looking vehicle than the endeavour

the profile of the endy is just unbeatable
infact if i would deviate from my liking for sedans and chose an suv it has too be the endy or else i'll go back to choosing sedans
but now even the captiva looks prety good

I would think so, my best friend bought one (his reason was, no other 8 seater apart from the Innova below 16-17 lakhs & he didn't want the Innova) and I took it for a long trip. Amongst the worst riding cars (?) I've ever driven and certainly no where worth the money paid for it.

Unless of course, if you rhink about it in a metal for money kind of deal!

On the back page of HT's Saturday (18.10.08) Delhi edition is a huge ad for Altis. It thanks 2500 customers. Perhaps that is the number sold upto now? Or bookings (are they customers or potential customers). Or upto end-Sep 2008. No matter how you analyse it, so far it has been selling well, despite the worsening financial situation. Not certain on its sustainability though.

Dhanteras delivers this year too, over 15,000 cars sold

Dhanteras delivers this year too, over 15,000 cars sold
28 Oct, 2008, 0809 hrs IST,Chanchal Pal Chauhan , ET Bureau

NEW DELHI: When all else fails, Motown can fall back on the goddess of wealth to bail it out. Meltdown or no meltdown, Dhanteras sales have sparked a sparkling Diwali for car companies.

Dhanteras – the most auspicious day for buying metal in North India – saw the industry clock three times its usual daily sales. Initial reports suggest that more than 15,000 vehicles (cars and SUVs) were sold on Sunday across the country. That’s a big leap from what the industry usually clocks, around 3,000-3 ,500 cars per day.

But this Dhanteras still couldn’t match the sparkle of the same day last year when around 17,000 vehicles were sold. The liquidity crisis and prevailing high interest rates as well as strict lending norms played spoil sport this time round, dampening demand.

However, compared to the trend this year, Dhanteras has lived up to its promise. Car sales have not been encouraging this fiscal with customers postponing purchases. As a result, carmakers were pinning all hopes on Dhanteras. Said the marketing head of a top mass market passenger vehicle company: “Typically, customers book the vehicle but take delivery on Dhanteras. So we expect that one day to clock 80% of our entire festival sales.”

Thankfully for car companies, despite the cash crunch and the high interest rate regime, Dhanteras turned out to be a bonanza. Most mass market companies checked their moving inventory and took hourly stock updates. For Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), which controls more than 50% of the Indian car market, Sunday sales added some healthy numbers to its tally. MSI executive officer (sales & marketing) Mayank Pareek said: “The response on Dhanteras was up to our expectations. Most markets in the north have performed well. We are also looking at a similar response for the upcoming Bahiya Dooj and other festivities.”

While Diwali revellers looked for Dhanteras bargains, most car marketing executives worked late on Sunday night to track the last minute sales numbers. Some dealers were even offering special discounts to lure undecided customers. That roster included some names not known to play the discount game. Take Honda Siel Cars India, whose dealers are offering discounts to customers for the first time.

I am surprised to see Octavia is still selling good, despite Magnum's presence... and also why not Mitsubishi doing something to prevent their Lancer Brand... Cedia is no where near the car's in its segment...

But one should look at how amazingly Swift is the leader in all respects.... No one, not even comes close to beat this car... Its amazing to see its runaway success in its segment....

I am eagerly waiting to see Focus, Kizashi & Cruze in C2 segment.....

Maruti sales dip 7% in October

The sales witnessed one of the biggest drop last month. Also considering that it had two very important festivals, slowdown seems to be affecting everyone.

Tata Motors - October Sales figure

Total vehicle sales at 39,729 nos

Total sales of passenger vehicles at 17,014 vehicles in the domestic market in October 2008 They grew by 3% over the previous month of September 2008,

Retail sales crossed 18,500 nos. led by highest retail sales for cars for any month this fiscal.

The Indica range sales at 9,484 nos. grew by 10% compared to the previous month, and continue to look up since August, the month in which the Indica Vista was launched, when the sales were at 7,756 nos.

The car continues to have a 6-week waiting period, and the company is ramping up production every month to meet the pending demand.

As a result, the range still shows a decline of 19% over the same month last year, but it is slated to register a growth as soon as the production reaches a stable ramped up capacity.

The Indigo range continues to have a good run with sales of 4,616 nos., a 96% growth over October 2007. Between the Indica and the Indigo range, total sales of 14,100 nos. in the month of October 2008 are marginally up (for the first time this fiscal) than the car sales of 14,011 nos. in October 2007.

Retail sales for cars were at the highest this fiscal at over 15,000 nos. The Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 2,914 nos., a decline of 27% compared to October 2007. The UV/SUV range has been under pressure in the market since the July ad hoc imposition of an additional element of excise duty on vehicles having engine displacement of over 1.5 litre.

Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were 114,919 nos., a decline of 5% over 120,498 nos. in the same period last year, primarily due to the phasing out of the older Indica and the induction of the new Indica Vista. Cumulative sales of the Indica at 59,039 nos., reported a decline of 26%, a situation that has shown an improvement over the last few months since the launch of the Indica Vista. Cumulative sales of the Indigo family were 31,282 nos., a strong growth of 88%. Cumulative sales of Sumo and Safari were 24,598 nos., a growth of 4%.
