Is the Dzire in the hatch segment or the sedan segment? Methinks its a sedan since its a hatch with a boot. And you have to give credit to Maruti for the SX4 too. Seems like decent sales there too.

Agreed.

Of course, the sedan segment! The Dzire has been a major contributor to Maruti's C segment growth.

Congratulations to Linea for being the segment leader (Executive car segment) since the day it was launched

Thats good number for ANHC - so its still the segment leader (Mid-size car segment)

??? by which math. In 1/09, Maruti sold 6590, Honda 4902. Very few of Maruti is SX4 and so Dzire leads.

The difference is even more glaring for Oct-Dec 2008, with Maruti selling 17911, and Honda selling 8043. Even Tata sold more at 9766. Tata has been outselling Honda since Apr-Jun 08. The last quarter that Honda led in this segment was in Oct-Dec 07. In Oct-Dec 2008, Maruti sold 9868 more than Honda. This cannot be explained by SX4 alone. In July-Sep 08, Maruti sold 11205 more than Honda. Again, SX4 cannot account for this.

Please visit the Linea v/s ANHC comparo thread where it has been cleared that there is no competition to the City and that it's in a segment of it's own. Starting next month, Indian auto sales will be divided into the following segments:

- Mini upto 3400mm.

- Compact (3400 to 4000mm)

- Mid-Size 4001 to 4500mm

- Honda City.

- Executive 4501 to 4700mm and so on.

It bloody well be the segment leader considering that it's the only one in that segment!

He is not the only one. Believe me. Many more are bored with NHC fan threads. I too am one of them. He just reacted as he has more attachment for the car compared to Honda City which is actually good.

Count me too. I am bugged of hearing the praise for NHC/ANHC
Being fan is just fine, but not senseless!

6590 includes SX4 + Dzire. Whats the split up? Unless we have the split up, we can only speculate.

My speculation: Its 1st month of new year and SX4 would have surely done close to 2000. That leaves 4500 for Dzire (considering the production constraint of Maruti). So I concurred ANHC is largest seller. I could be wrong if we get higher numbers for Dzire.

I guess your post is in reaction to my post. No where I praised NHC/ANHC. I just congratulated C & D segment leaders. Please read my post again.

I would say all Honda cars in one segment, and the rest in the others. This is because Honda is so far ahead that it only competes with its own cars!!!.

Of course, City deserves to sell the units as it does, but to degrade Linea as some are doing here (not you) by placing it in a different lower segment is unjustified. Through this downgrade, some people can justify that Linea does not beat Civic, and is in fact trailing Honda City. By their logic (of categorising based on pricing), perhaps Fabia should be in City segment, and should be competing with Optra. Similarly, Accord does not compete with Camry. See my earlier posts of some similarly ridiculous comparisons (if pricing is used to categorise). And to add another comparison, Alto competes with Indigo (the price difference is 1 lakh which is the same as between Linea and City). Really , there is no stretching so as to justify one's prejudices.

ANHC's length is 4420mm. So even by your segmentation its a mid-size car.

I would say that SX4 sold more than 1688, with Dzire selling not more than 4902. That would leave City as the leader with 4903 sold in 1/09. However, this logic cannot be justified for Oct-Dec 2008 where Maruti is outselling Honda by more than 2:1. Put any possible combination, and still City would trail SX4, Dzire, or both. Similarly for July-Sep 08, and similarly for Apr-Jun 08. Dzire was launched in early-2008. In Feb 08, Sx4 sold 1958. From Apr 08, Honda has trailed Maruti (SX4+Dzire) in the segment.

All this points for most (but not all) conversant with math to conclude that Dzire is the leader in its segment for the last few months (in fact for most of its existence), period.

Ok, agreed. Congratulations to Dzire for being the C-segment leader for the month Jan 2009.
