Is there a delay from FIAL to release sales figures of LINEA for April? I'm waiting to see which way the trend swings now that the year end mad rush is over.

we should probably wait till the next month to confirm this. Honda used to sell around 4000 per month, and last month there was a jump to 6000. I guess that's coz some would have advanced their purchases due to the price hike.

next month would be interesting.

Where's the Linea numbers?! FIAT, out with it fast...

It's good that SX4 is able to maintain around 2-3K per month

So, around 1200 SX4 may have sold.
Quote:
So SX4 must be selling around 2500.
As per ACI, Maruti sold 13,976 SX4's throughout the year 2008-09. That's an average of 1150 units per month. Overall, SX4 sales are down 55.2% Y-O-Y. SX4 annual sales are in Logan territory. Logan sales are around 13,7xx units, almost 50% down Y-O-Y.

What that also means is that Fiat Linea is outselling Maruti-Suzuki SX4 by a BIG margin. Clearly Linea's diesel advantage is at work here.

So, the tata safari ceases to be the "lal bathi" wagon?

Amit, thanks for sharing numbers and confirming a trend I had long suspected. It is a tremendous fall, considering the hey days 18 months or so back.

Yeah sure, but the fall had started with the introduction of Dzire( last year, for e.g, July sales of SX4 was around 1000 - Pulsar's sheet in the thread http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ng-down-7.html )
Inspite of ads like 'who is the man now', the fact remains that customers who buy Maruti are largely the VFM segment. For such a customer, a DZire and a diesel to boot, is a better option.

But a good start by Linea and that makes me really happy.

Maruti seems to have just realized that the Omni is a better seller than the Versa and gone back on their plans to phase it out. 76K vehicles last year is pretty significant to the 1440 Versas sold last year . They will be working to get it to BS-IV spec. The 800 seems to be a confirmed gonner. They have announced they need to get the SX4 diesel soon to arrest the fall in sales numbers. Issue is they have the 1.3 diesel only and need a larger engine. The Linea seems to be filling in the space left by the SX4 as mentioned by Sridharps.

Vehicles to watch for the next few months will be the Ritz and the Grande Punto. These will for sure take more buyers than the existing vehicles like the Swift,Getz,I20,I10,Vista etc.

The Jazz will eat into the Fabia sales - but not much else. Not sure it will impact the sub 6L segment by much.

Been seeing i20s on a regular basis on the roads here in Bangalore these days. Saw quite a few in Kerala as well. Has it managed to shake off the shackles which proved to be a dampner earlier? I sure see a lot more of i20s than even Fabias.

Havn't seen too many I20s here in Chennai. Fabias are few and far between as well. The A-stars have now begun showing up. Have noticed a lot of Red Lineas however.

People are realizing that after all 40-50k premium is well justified for i20 over Petrol swift considering the overall build, space and features.

from the above source:

Quote:
Over 6,000 units of the Bolero were sold in April, with the newly-launched Xylo selling 3,509 units and the Scorpio doing 3,100 units. Against this, the Toyota Innova sold 2,834 units, while the Tata Sumo sold 1642 units (including 174 units of Grande) and the Safari sold 774 units.
i think after the launch of the innova, this maybe the first time scorpio's sales figures were more than innova's! mahindras must be praying that elections should happen more often! even xylo is selling more than innova, i dont think these guys will prefer a xylo for election duty.

174 units of grande- will tata discontinue the model?

As for the low sales of SX4:

a) We have few performance seekers in India, hence people tend to buy cars with better FE over a car with better Performance. (Eg.NHC).
IMHO ANHC has been selling more because of the goodwill created by the NHC. Performance seekers after all, tend to opt for fiestaS over ANHC.

b)Likes of Vernas and Fiestas, which have diesel motors as option, SX4 does not.

For a real comparo, it will be interesting to compare sales of SX4 with Verna/linea/fiesta petrol. As the latter options usually have good sales due to diesel mill and petrol version hardly account for anything.

As for SX4 diesel, lets see if it comes anytime soon. Considering the response towards Dzire and Swift diesels, hopes are quite high.
