SX4+Esteem sold together just 3923? Thats surprisingly a low no with the hype created by SX4 before launch. Logan is slowly making inroads steadily, it looks like. Practicality works wonder it seems!

I feel Maruti can produce only 3000+ SX4 units per month for now that should be the reason why SX4+Esteem sold around 3923. If we know the confirmed booking of SX4 we can analyze how SX4 is doing.

About Logan its practical car for urban and semi urban commutor. It will pick up month by month and it will start selling constant 3000+ units in couple of months I feel.

Also I heard M&M June sales up by over 50% around 17800+ units.

Regards,

Ravi.

Out of this 3900, I presume esteem would be around 900-1200 units with most of the sales being from SX-4.
As for logan 2700 is decent, but for a diesel car at low price it isnt great. SX4 is petrol only, if it had a diesel variant, then you would have seen even more sales.

Lets wait for June nos of M&M that will give us a clear picture whether SX4 really made any impact on either NHC or Logan. They should simply get rid of Esteem and go full swing to get the sx4 out as much as possible. Esteem a decade old design which never was related to safety. on the other hand sx4 with safety features which is uncommon in india. What maruti wants their image to be? Time to shrugg those old people mover image and move on right?

there was an article in the paper that said more than 70% of the logan's sold were diesel. Hence, Tata Motors introduced a base Indigo to compete against the logan! Wow!

I heard SX4+Esteem (close to 4000) sold more than NHC (around 2500) in June 2007 which shows NHC is feeling heat from SX4 also little bit from Logan.

Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. :: Press Releases

However SX4, Logan both are new cars, so in couple of months we will know who will dominate.

Ravi.

Passenger vehilce sales for June (May) 07.

Honda 4503 (4811)
Hyundai 16335 (16643)
GM 4779 (?)
Maruti 56000 (55952)
Mahindra 16814 (?)
Tata 17418 (17580) - Indica/Indigo

In terms of percentage loss, eventhough most of'em slipped due to various factors like interest rates, off-season etc, Honda seems to have suffered the most! GM and M&M has increased sales due to new launches, though I dont have May figures.

Also two wheeler makers seems to be going into an irreversible downslide with TVS leading the pack with a 90% drop in sales! I feel people are kind of getting bored with those puny engines at last and seems to be more attracted towards high end bikes or 4 wheelers now. Unless these bike makers come out with some good vfm bike in the 250+cc segment, it will be difficult for them to survive, even though they can probably never recover in terms of volumes. A long honeymoon is getting over for Hero and Bajaj, and for TVS, God help them.

After Spark and U-VA, GM figures are looking healthier. Honda is suffering in numbers because they don't have anything in A or B segments and thats where the numbers are.

Maruti, M&M lead sales, Hyundai, Tata lag behind

"A substantial portion of the growth was propelled by new cars which were launched this year in the market which includes the- Maruti SX4 and Swift diesel, M&M's Logan (which sold 2389 units constituting for 18.39% of M&M's auto sales) and Chevrolet Spark(sold 1504 units which accounts for 31.5% of GMs sales). Sales of Tata Motors fell by 5.7% to 17,418 units in the domestic market as against 18,465 units posted in the same month of the previous year. The Indica fell by 4.4% to 11,727 units with the Indigo sedan witnessing a drop of 18.4% to 2,354. "

Maruti, M&M lead sales, Hyundai, Tata lag behind

SX4 is at Top 8th selling car in the month it is launched (Source: Autocar magazine).

June numbers too resemble the statement.

Guess this is first time a premium C segment car comes in Top 10 list.

It is bad time for Honda to come up with upgraded NHC.
