I think Esteem sales would be lower than 1900. SX4 should be selling around 2700-2800 pm.

well I am not sure if Honda thinks the way you think - that since our targets are covered, we don't care about monthly sales decline.
For me, I smirk reading any news on Honda City sales decline as that is one car with Honda thinks Indians doesn't deserve any safety standards (yes I know new V-Tech comes with safety stuffs, but at 9L)
They should be bothered about the sales decline and should introduce more stuffs to city.
(just my opinion, as I think they sell City with all safety equips in other Asian countries)

1 month later the price went down by 50K. Now he has decided that the midsize they will buy will not be a GM car.
Anybody buying a car in the first year of the launch is asking to get ripped off by the car manufacturer. What about the people who bought the Estilo at launch and the current discounts? People who bought swift at launch and then discounts of Rs. 20K plus corporate discount of Rs. 20K (with the exchange bonus not included) was available in December 2006 for the Swift. The people who buy the Swift diesel will not like it if and when discounts are offered after the demand stabilizes.
The Splash, i10 etc. will all have discounts offered if the sales don't pick up. Baleno's price was brought down by more than a lakh after sales failed to pick up. Hyundai is just gritting its teeth in not giving any further discount on the getz 1.3. They invested in the engine plant and they are selling about 2000 1.3 getzes per month or so? Ford Fusion, another car which failed, again had its prices slashed . . .

The only cars which have narrow discount ranges are the ones that are selling well. For the others, the manufacturer has to manufacture a reason for the customer to buy the car, and not just manufacture the car alone. GM and others are not giving the discount at whim or to frustrate people. They are doing it to achieve specific sales targets.

This 50K is not corporate discount, thats additional.
On a 5L car when you have a 20K festive discount its different. But when on a car less than 4L you have 50K discount its crazy.
Just because Hyundai did this with Elantra or Ford did with Fusion it does not make it right. It just shakes consumer confidence. Sales of Fusion and Elantra tell how much good the discounts did.
As for City, Swift, Santro, Indica I am wondering how much has the sticker price been reduced.
When sticker price goes down 50K, its worrying

My personal preference in all electronics and car purchases is to be conservative and not be in the race for bragging rights. That way, prices stabilise and production glitches can be worked out. Production problems and customer complaints in the first few months can lead to reworking and an improvement in quality.

AFAIK, Chevy marketed it as a reduction in the ex-showroom price, which was a big mistake!

The 50K discount for the Spark is actually incorrect. Only the 1.0 model (with ac, without ps) had a 50K discount. The other models had 40K to 45K discount. There was no corporate discount for the Spark during Oct 12 to Oct 22, 2007.

Now, the Estilo has been having a 18K-20K discount the last few months, this was the general discount. In addition to that there was some corporate, not sure how much that is. In addition to that there is the exchange bonus of some 10 or 15K. Altogether the total savings for the "right" person, i.e., one who is eligible for corporate discount and already owns a maruti car to be sold, is more than 30K. Maruti already has a large number of cars on the road, and is already attractive to corporate customers that they really don't need to do anything more than this to maintain sales targets. The actual difference of the discounts between the estilo and the spark is definitely less than 20K, except for the base model (with ac, without power steering). The exact amount has to be calculated on a model to model basis.

Santro + Getz = 15,480
Accent + Verna = 2,668

Isn't that a huge leap??? And who's share has i10 eaten into. All of it can't be market growth!

Also does increase in footfalls due to i10 also led to increase in Accent & Verna numbers? Although Oct 06 (festive season) saw 3,720 accent & Vernas sold.

Top 10- Oct 2007.

Source- ACI Dec 2007
  • Maruti Alto- 21,252
  • Maruti WagonR- 12,314.
  • TATA Indica- 11,658.
  • Hyundai Santro- 10,655
  • Maruti Omni- 8,022
  • Maruti Swift- 7,978.
  • Mahindra Bolero- 5,877
  • Maruti Zen Estilo- 5,533.
  • Maruti 800- 4,477
  • Toyota Innova- 4,229
WagonR become the 2nd highest selling car, overtaking Santro and Indica. I think the main reason is Santro customers opting for the modern i10.

i10 sells 3,414 units in the first month!

Bolero continues its dream run! Time for TATA to bring up its new Sumo?

Maruti Omni- 8,022

Omni outsells Maruti Swift(!!), M800, Spark, and is within striking distance of the Santro(!!) and Indica(!!). All of it can't be commercial sales and for the kidnapping industry.

It would be interesting to see how many private Omni's are bought as passenger cars. What about Versa? Is it still sold?

Assuming i10 sold 10k units ( as per Hyundai website):
santro + getz = 15443 units

I think that 10k for i10 could have come from any combination betwen santro, Getz, Wagon r and Some swifts too. We can have real picture after Vasudeva posts his monthly xls.
