Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Awesome figures for the figo. Has definately turned fords fortunes around. And with more fords on the road, will instill confidence in the brand and am sure more folks will go out and buy other models from ford too. They have done their homework well and launched the figo which is perfectly suited to the indian hatch buyers needs and is priced competively too.

A lot of altis buyers seem to have moved to the diesel variant despite some features being cut in diesel form. And the civic petrol sales are slightly higher than the altis petrol. Honda are you listening? People want diesel variants too. So hurry up!

Finally Fiat is moving back to the original figures. I guess T-jet must have lost out due to "mileage fears" It sure did for me as I opted for the MJD considering my monthly running.

HI GTO
Alto seems to turning out to be Maruti beacon. seems that ARIA is not having the airs needed but has so many features packed into it. (TATA needs to shake off the cab tag)

Tata needs to price it better. Innova is far better a choice at 15L compared to Aria at 18L. One look at the price list and we rejected Aria.

very interesting to see Figo and Polo doing so well

add a hardtop proper, upgrade the interiors and dash and ergonomics, shove in an aircon, maybe re-model the seats to fit the same ones as the Swift has, jazz it up just a bit more with a set of front facing rear seats too and with that MJD engine it is quite possible the dear old gypsy will beat the tar out of the Thar (no pun intended). fit and finish of the gypsy were always better than the old M&M jeeps.

With MJD people will get very good option of good mini SUV, life style vehicle in 6-7 Lacs.

Maruti are you listening?

Hi everyone,

- Maruti SX4: 2,159 is its best in 13 months (possibly best ever)
- Tata Safari: 1,796 is its best in 13 months (possibly best ever)

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

IMO yeti sales will leave the Aria sales behind in the months to come.

Toyota pirius sold just 1 unit! For all the 'green' idealogy that is promoted thses days, it is surprising there is no discounts for a hybrid car on the taxex.

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Hi again everyone!

I have compiled an Excel file showing every month of sales for the Top 40 models in India for the last 13 months, showing clearly how strong January 2011 is for many models.

You can find it here, click on the link below the 4 pictures.

Enjoy!

Hyundai i10 and Ford Figo have done excellent numbers and are back with a bang. It was worrying to see these deserving models doing less-than-usual numbers for December. Hyundai i20 seems to have come down from its usual numbers.

There is no stopping the Maruti juggernaut - the Alto, Swift, Dzire and even Ritz doing stunning numbers.

The Global Recalls not withstanding, Toyota is at its peak form in India right now. Everything from Corolla, Innova to Fortuner are leading their segments. The Etios will take them even further.

Finally, its heartening to see the rise of the Nano again. Its proving all the doomsayers false. Its a mythbusting product and will become the pride of Indian Engineering very soon.

Verna was and still is doing good numbers because of one reason - the gem under its hood called CRDi.

+1 to your statement about the Verna . Eagerly anticipating the launch of the new Verna RB. Everything is going well for HMIL; the launch has to happen in the next 2-3 months!

Nice Analysis Matt,
Hope this growth cure and 'best ever' tempo is not spoiled by the increase in interest rates for Auto loans. Hope, RBI will not hinder the growth prospects of Automotive Industry by further increasing the base points.
Else, the whole industry momentum will be thrown to a low gear in Q4.

An effect of this may be a spurt in sales of lower end models and two wheelers.

Very well said.

Till Figo was launched, in India Ford was perceived to be a a company selling cars only in C and above segment.

Figo has changed the fortune of Ford India and future models coming from Ford's stable will have a larger audience if they fit the bill.

Way to go Ford.
