Wonder where the kizashi will be placed next month. Will it follow the aria for a still decent 300-400 figure or will it follow the GV's dismal solo.

I think it will be in between, maybe around 200 mark for the first month. Later I think it will probably settle around 100 nos purely due to lack of a diesel option.

Hi GTO. I know that JLR doesn't like sharing their sales figures, but do they sell more units than Porsche ? I'm guessing JLR would be selling marginally more units than Porsche!

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

I saw 3 Phaeton's within 2 days in Mumbai. One in the Dadar showroom, ready for delivery, one in Worli Seaface (dark blue/black paint) and another Pune registered in Colaba. So I believe the Phaeton is doing decent numbers even though its far from the 7'er and the S-class, but probably its selling close to A8 numbers.

Here's a link to the pics of two of them:

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Was looking at the #s for Corolla for the past 4 months (962, 784, 1082 and 917) and when compared to Jan 2011, the sales are just split between P and D4D. No rise at all. Wonder if it would have changed if they had come up with a larger oil burner. This seems just a natural degree of cannibalization.

BH.

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

Just saw the news in todays Hindu that Audi India sold 480 units totally in January 2011, which, according to the report, is their highest ever monthly sales in India, up by 57%. Audi India sold 3,003 units totally in 2010, which translates to a growth of 81% vis-a-vis the previous year. I could not find anymore data in the paper. This came along with the new Audi A8's launch report.

Cheers!

Re: January 2011 - Indian Car Sales Figures

My take is that Tata made a mistake by launching the car in October. It should have been a new year's launch and I think thats why the initial numbers have slumped.

I think the fact that the Aria is close to the Endeavor means that there are some takers for the car. Another six months and we should have a more clear idea.

Definately end of year discounts for the cayenne coupled with a diesel variant helping numbers here. My favourite porsche is still the cayman.

alto selling 33k units is a great feat for maruti.
Fiat GP at low 1200 units is very disappointing !

What stops TATA from bringing competitor model Bolero? Its a segment leader mass accepted rural vehicle. I am sure TATA has all the capabilities to take it to higher levels at same procepoint.

Surprising to see the SX4 selling more than the Verna and the Verna in turn selling more than the Fiesta (considering I see very few new-gen SX4s and Vernas), the Beetle selling 20 units, and Fiat selling a total of just around 2000 cars :o !
The SX4 sells very well in North. Moreover MSIL has the biggest dealer network and the SX4 sells in trhe smaller towns wher the like of Hona do not have s presence.similarly the Verna Diesel is popular in smaller cities especially amongst people who log in a lot of kms

Bolero is a segment leader in the rural and semi urban markets because many Bolero customers perceive this to be an extension to the Mahindra Jeep which was widely used by the same audience a decade ago.

Mahindra Bolero is a utility vehicle that is well-suited to Indian conditions. Even though it is based on a decades old platform, its high ground clearance makes it easier to drive on rural Indian roads. Equipped with 2500 cc diesel engine, it has become the vehicle of choice for rural and semi urban population.

Maruti and Hyundai both have had issues selling cars >10L in India. Kizashi is a bold move by Maruti to break that pattern. Diesel missing is a serious handicap in achieving good numbers when going against established players with diesel options in that range. 300-400 figure will be on the higher side IMO. We should see the realistic figure in March sales thread!
